Re: 2014 GC "EcoDiesel" OWNERS!!! Review..

Thanks for all the support guys.. I really appreciate it. I actually have another week to go and really hope they give me someone to train before I leave. I'll try to poke my head in here from time to time and keep in touch with you guys. Hopefully my next venture will provide me the ability to get back in a Jeep and join in on the fun.

Just want to pass on my appreciation for all the insider goodies you've helped bring to us. Your participation in this whole process was, for me at least, a very welcomed help.

Thanks much.

Re: 2014 GC "EcoDiesel" OWNERS!!! Review..

Took my CRD on it's first road trip after relegating her to mainly city driving for her first 2300 miles.

About 200 miles each way, on the way back we drove through a nasty snow storm the entire way. Drove up to northern Vermont from Boston, which took us through the White Mountains, very hilly terrain. Managed 28mpg in 0-15 degree weather over two days and 400+ miles.

Very impressed.

More so impressed with how she handled driving through a blizzard at 45-60mph on the way back. The Goodyear A/T Adventure tires did a great job.

Can anyone in cold weather climates please let me know if the CRD makes an annoying groan (sounds like a Honda soup can exhaust) in cold weather (typically below the 25 degree). This is not only during start-up. The engine runs fine..but it doesn't seem normal.

Are you sure about that version number? I think you mean 13.38.52 unless there's a new version of which I'm not aware.

Vehicle Phone Requires Service error message -- This has been constant since delivery. Since all other radio functions seem to work as designed, this has been a low priority.
Assuming you meant 13.38.52, you might want to consider trying an upgrade. When I was running 38.52, I was getting the phone requires service message quite regularly (at least once per day). After upgrading to 13.48.3 I haven't gotten the message a single time. I upgraded on Dec 15, so it's now been just shy of 2 months without seeing it.

Just a thought.

Definitely gets more loud the colder the climate.

Thanks for the reply; you are right, the 58 is a typo. I have been waiting to upgrade to 13.48.3 after seeing some had jittery cameras after the install. I have also been busy and have not take the time to download yet.

In spite of the MINOR Issues, it is a great truck, the diesel and ZF tranny are the key to my satisfaction.

Just came from the dealer for an oil change and tire rotation $21.00 (8 months and 5000 miles) and the 13.43.3 radio upgrade and I have no jittery backup camera afterwards.

Re: 2014 GC "EcoDiesel" OWNERS!!! Review..

So after logging about 3000 miles and finally getting the time to put up a review, I have it broken down as follows:

Delivery: 8/10

I would say this is the area most lacking. I am big on first impressions, this is the reason it took me a few dealers before I found one I was happy with. This category would rank the lowest for me as I am usually over-educated on the vehicle I am interested in and when the dealer tries to push things I am not interested in, things go south quickly.

My Jeep arrived at the dealer on Dec. 3 and was finally ready for pickup on the 6th after many attempts at getting me to buy the lifetime warranty, etc. It is entertaining to prove the financial guys wrong and have them call the warranty company to confirm that I am correct in stating that the lifetime is not available for the diesel.
At least they were nice enough to not detail the interior as I am uber particular about products and it is one of my passions…unfortunately the snow was upon us by the time I took delivery so the full paint prep and detail is on hold until spring(not thrilled about that)

Exterior: 9.5/10

Doing a good once over at the dealer and another look at home, I must say that the only issue here is the fuel filler door sticks out on the hinge side and top…appears to be due to the assembly itself and when I need to go to the dealer, I will have this addressed. No liftgate alignment issues and I didn’t note any flaws in the paint however this spring may be a different story when I go to detail it.
99% of the Jeeps in my area are Laredo’s or Limited’s without the LED DRL so I do stand out and catch people staring at the Jeep…I do love those headlights, too bad the Summit is the only one with adaptive though. Additionally, not a huge fan of chrome so a trip to the paint shop may be in order for the mirror caps and door handles. I would pay extra for a de-chromed option but not a deal breaker.

Interior: 10/10

Not a single issue here, I do wish that LED lights were factory but $30 and an hour made quick work of that. My only potential gripe is that the white stitching on the dashboard reflects off the windshield at certain points throughout the day.
I do occasionally regret not getting the Indigo interior as I have seen it a few times and love it more and more every time I see it. However, that is on me.

Engine & Transmission: 9.75/10

The engine….I love it. Gobs of power and great mileage on top of that. Currently averaging ~24 MPG on crappy winter diesel so I am excited to see what summer blend and a fully broken-in engine will do.
The only minor gripe here is that the transmission stutters when coming up to a stop sign (2 to 1) when doing 10-15 mph. I suspect it is a torque converter deal since the buckets of torque will keep it locked up until the last second so it may just require more finesse on my part…time will tell.

Ride/Handling: 10/10

Amazingly quiet and smooth ride, the stock tires are crap and they are truly the only thing I hear going down the road if the radio is turned down. I enjoy the Quadra-lift and am happy I upgraded to the Overland for it(and a couple of other things)

Electronics & other features: 10/10

Adaptive cruise control…how did I live without you. It is yet another feature that I will never buy another vehicle without again(This happened with ventilated seats previously). The blindspot warning is nice too…I always turn my head out of habit but it is a nice quick giveaway.
I also love the remote start from my phone, I have to walk about mile from work to the parking lot so no keyfob will work and the 5F days allow a good warmup before I get there. I believe I will need my XM antenna replaced as reception is spotty on days(TSB).

Overall thoughts & rating: 9.8/10

I am absolutely thrilled I went with the Jeep for my purchase (looked at X5d and ML350). It definitely has the looks and it is the most bang for the buck out of any of the competitors.
Thanks to Milous, Willx, Chevy, Marlon, and everyone on the forum for making the long wait bearable and entertaining to say the least.

Not available for the diesel? That is distressing to me. Does the lifetime contract not cover the diesel engine (but still cover the rest of the Jeep), or do you mean that the entire vehicle is ineligible because it has a diesel engine?

With all the complex systems and high-dollar components on the new vehicles nowadays, I'd made up my mind that a lifetime coverage contract was the only way to go.

Has anyone scanned and posted one of these contracts anywhere in the forum? Or is the text available somewhere online? I want to read it!!! This item would be good as a sticky IMO.
