Re: 2014 GC "EcoDiesel" OWNERS!!! Review..

Thanks. I really appreciate everyone's advice on the dealer shopping. I had assumed similar pricing anywhere. I will be contacting the TX dealer. I'm in Colorado Springs, which has two dealers, but I should try the Denver dealers as well to see what pricing they can offer. I'm looking for '14 JGC Limited 4X4 EcoDiesel LUX2 NAV OR2.

Since you seem concerned about the dealer's business model, be sure to add any "Dealer Prep fees" to their price quote. That's just a another profit to the dealer in another column, and IS NOT universal for all dealers.....

Thanks GunnySpook. I'll be sure ask about dealer prep fees and decide if this is something I should pay extra for. I assume Jeeps are ready to drive out of JNAP -- except fuel, fluids and tire pressure check. Maybe it comes with a wrench and some assembly required but I really don't know until I buy one.

They have to charge something to pull all that plastic off the interior...

When I ordered mine, I specified that I wanted it untouched, unwashed, and undriven. I unwrapped and inspected her myself in all of 5 minutes. I didn't pay dealer prep and drove my dirty GC home where she received a proper handwash, clay bar detail, polish and wax job. You would be surprised at the grit a train leaves on a new car and the minimum wage dealer car wash guy will rub it right into your shiny new clearcoat....and charge you extra prep fees for the scratches!

I am shocked that a dealer would even allow you to do this.
Nice tip that I will remember.

But, is there not more to dealer prep than just removing the wrapper and washing it? I would think there was a slew of checks they would have to perform before allowing it in customer hands.

The dealer is a musician buddy of mine that was my bass player for several years. We're pretty tight. Normally they check the critical fluids, torque the lug bolts, remove protective material, test drive and wash it

I hounded him to order me a CRD since March of 2013 and we had a running joke about him allowing everyone to test drive it before I got it. He seriously put a sign on the windshield to "do not touch per customer request". Now THAT'S service. I'm sure there are CDJ dealer guidelines against that.

I told them to not wash nor remove any plastic from the interior of mine. Mine still had the chalk writing on the windshield. I did ask them to wipe that off.

I had 6 miles on her

The dealers would tell you that they do more then just wash it but in reality it would be no more then a wash and check oils

In australia they charge up to $4,000.00 for this service.
Its the same thing on the first service all they do is a visible check and drip stick check thats it
The only issue with doing your own pre delivery is that the dealer will then deny warranty on any scratches dints etc sighting that it may have occurred in your time.

Re: 2014 GC "EcoDiesel" OWNERS!!! Review..

Since I have reached 5,000 miles, towed my trailer 1,200 miles and been camping, I figured I would give a review. For the record, it is a 4x4 Limited with ORAII.

The power at 2000 RPM is awesome: 160hp, nearly 40% more than the 5.3L V8 Chevy I replaced. Fuel economy pulling the trailer is about 37% better (22mpg vs 16mpg). The 8 speed transmission is great. I rarely feel it shift and often see it in 6th or 7th as needed on grades (i. e. - plenty of gears is good). I find it better to run with eco-mode turned off pulling the trailer, and in sport mode on twisty, mountain highways.

The air-lift has been flawless. I really like the idea that the vehicle can be adapted to various conditions. I have used all of the levels as intended. The loud bumps are disconcerting when at off-road levels. My elderly parents like the parking level which makes it easier for them to get in and out.

I like the ventilated seats. I find it a pain that they default to off each time I turn off the engine. I like the heated steering wheel and seats too. I find the AC a little wimpy. We will see how well it works this summer in Tucson. The rear-view camera makes it a cinch to back up to the trailer.

The satellite radio and TravelLink are cool; I am not sure if I will keep them. This is my first experience with a Navigation system. I understand its limitations and still use paper maps as well, so I have no issues with it. I like to use the USB memory port. I use an NTFS formatted, 64GB module with about 400 CDs ripped at 320bps. Works great. I have also used FAT32 formatted, 32GB modules.

Too bad I had to buy the sun roof with the diesel. I never open it and probably never will. I do use the 120v AC outlet. I actually plugged in a power strip to it so I can plug in multiple devices and access 120v AC easier with the back seats folded down.

I have done nine (9) full-day trips. I have not been uncomfortable or become tired of sitting. Thus, I can say that the seats are good. I originally thought they were kind of hard and rather wide for me, but I have been very comfortable driving all day.

I am rather concerned about the reliability and ruggedness. I have had a couple intermittent/false errors and have seen the DEF level jump around. I tend to go to back country locations where it is not reasonable to be in limp-mode, have to regen the exhaust, get towed, or have to visit the dealer for service. I also have an issue with the oil level, but I think I will put that in another post.

In addition to the review, here are a couple photos from last week's trip to Death Valley.
