As said by others, my very first impression is WOW. This really is the most sophisticated trail-ready SUV in the world. I was quite convinced by the time the EcoDiesels were shipped, but I knew I had made the right decision after just mile of the test drive. So far, I am very impressed. Epilog
In my opinion, Jeep has a HUGE hit with the Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel. I am so glad that I visited Jeep Garage and learned about this incredible vehicle, and I am even more excited to say that I own one. The journey to Jeep ownership took me from newbie questions to a walk through the JNAP facility, and finally having a Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel in my own garage.

I want to thank all of the Jeep Garage members who provided opinions and information along the way. A special thanks to all the “insiders”: Chevy, Marlon, Milous, Willx, and the others I don’t know as well, your insight was especially helpful with my first Jeep purchase. I joined as a lifetime member, and I look forward to staying in touch as we enjoy our Jeeps and encourage others to choose the EcoDiesel.
Great Review. I hope mine is as good as yours. Getting so excited. Nice detail in your review. Would love updates as you get more experience in your unicorn.

Love the reviews from everyone, keep them coming. Nice to have the initial reviews, but please come back and give another review after you have had it for a few weeks.

I have a new 2014 diesel laredo with factory sunroof and towbar. This is my first jeep. Very impressed. This car has petrol response from a diesel engine. Great on fuel. I have done 1500klms in 2 weeks, mixture of city and highway. Averaging 8.7litres per 100 klms. I would recommend to any body. This car creates alot of looks and responses from many people.

Picked it up last night and this morning no power pulling out on to a busy road, then maybe a second or 2 later the power came on. After that a service electronic throttle control or similar message appeared. Happened a 2nd time too.

I thought diesels were not subject to this recall, as they had the new module installed at the factory?

Service electronic throttle is not part of the recall.... can I ask if you are a 2 foot automatic driver?

If anyone is a two foot driver you are driving a full fly by wire system with safety overrides. If you manage to be intermittently pressing the brake and accelerator at the same time it may throw this error as the vehicle knows this should not happen during normal operation.

Re: 2014 GC "EcoDiesel" OWNERS!!! Review..

Addition to review:

Last night I needed to take my small enclosed trailer back out to my farm. I'd honestly planned to use my '06 Pathfinder as the path in has some brush on the sides, ruts, and goes though a pond spillway that I knew would be muddy (ruts a foot deep or more filled with mud/water). I wasn't quite ready to take the Jeep out there. Honestly I was moving the trailer out of the garage to put the Jeep in since there was a forecast of rain/snow overnight and I haven't sold my old truck yet.

That was the plan...but my 2.5 year old son really wanted to go, I was tired after a long day, and his car seat was already in the Jeep, so we hooked it up to the Jeep and went.

1st impression - towing. This trailer is small/light - I'd put it at about 1000ish lbs the way it was loaded. I absolutely could not tell it was back there at all. With my Pathfinder I can feel a little weight with it, nothing major, but I can tell it's there. In the Jeep, no sensation of weight or driving feel change at all.

The road into the farm is more of a path ("Farm" in this context means some land outside of town that is totally unmaintained, not an active farming operation) - once you leave the pavement it's about 1/4 mile through a field. I mow it about once a year and drive it about every 2 weeks to go get one of the trailers I keep out there for something. This time of year the pond overflows and fills the ruts with standing water all winter. Anytime except during a dry summer, 4WD is required but it's not extreme offroading by any means (my Pathfinder has an ELSD rear end and never could do it in 2wd, always had to engage 4wd even though it has always had fairly aggressive AT tires on it and my business partner's AWD Enclave as gotten stuck both times it's tried to go through with no trailer).

Last night temps were in the low 40's and wet.

I went in (with trailer, sort of downhill) in OR height 2 (keeping trailer tongue up) 4WD auto. No problems.

On the way out, I was in "mud mode" OR height 1.

It felt amazing, not even a slight issue. I know it was slick/nasty, but it didn't feel like it from the drivers seat.

I had planned to upgrade the tires very soon, but think I might hold off. I don't go offroad to play (or if I do, that's what ATVs are for), I just need to go offroad to actually get places. So far, I'm impressed!

It was kind of nice that these 'street' tires didn't throw mud all over the truck either.

Also impressive was the ride quality. My Pathfinder bounces all over the place on the same path. The Jeep was MUCH smoother and more settled.

Yes I do left foot brake but I don't leave my foot on either pedal. I'll try using just the one but I doubt that is the issue.

I was only suggesting this as I have seen this twice personally and only with left foot braking. If the system even sees the occasional pressing of both pedals (you are still lifting right foot while left foot hits) it will cause this after a few instances.

You can see why it would do that. Even my own truck did this once with a left foot braking person drove it. It has never done it with me.

It even started the acceleration before I had moved into the lane. After putting on the turn signal and starting to move over, it started to accelerate right away.
I was re-reading the owner's manual this morning (read the whole thing a couple months ago, but have forgotten some of the details) and the part about accelerating before moving into the lane is actually mentioned in the manual. If you put your left signal on while following a vehicle below your set speed, it will start to accelerate right away. Very cool.

I tried pairing the FOB to memory position 1 following the directions in the user's guide and was completely unsuccessful. After re-reading the owner's manual, I see why - the user's guide is incorrect (or at best not complete). This is probably already covered under a thread in the uconnect forum or elsewhere, so I won't belabor this in the diesel section.

I was also stymied by trying to get the "via mobile" apps working, until I finally gave up and searched the forums only to find they haven't released yet. Guess I shouldn't have spent *all* of my time in the diesel threads ....

Oh, and FWIW, my uconnect version is 13.33.something (my build date was 9/27) so I guess I'll try upgrading to 13.38.52.
