Re: 2014 GC "EcoDiesel" OWNERS!!! Review..

So we really do build a 30MPG Jeep. Wow. I bet you might be able to get higher after break in and you'd probably get close to 35 if it wasn't for all those coats of paint!!!!

To those of you who are missing that plastic fastener, could you show me what you are talking about? I'd like to check it out on The LineŽ to see what's going on with that...

Not knowing but my guess would be one of the plastic clips that holds the undertray to the bottom of the bumper.

Ya, it was one of the large "twist" type black fasteners on the outboard drivers side underneath the nose/lip that connects to the "felt" type first undertray/protector. The fastener was there on the passenger side.

Re: 2014 GC "EcoDiesel" OWNERS!!! Review..

Hello jeep family.
New member here! Just picked up our Summit 14 GC.
We rolled 100 miles on the way home. Mixed driving and averaged 27.5. I'm so happy with this great SUV. Test drove a new Mercedes GL and M class. Way to go jeep. You beat them both. And if you drive a q7 tdi or VW suv you made a mistake. go trade in and get a Eco-diesel! More post to come.
I drive 1,000 miles per week for my job. I will keep you posted on performance.
Deliver was perfect...
Truck was spotless.
DEF was 97% full ( per my request... You need to have your dealer add some)
Phone synced perfectly (iPhone)
Turbos kick in at 1900-2000 rpms. (Then hang on)
Winter floor mats got thrown in a delivery. (Nice surprise)
Have a great weekend everyone. I know I am going to the woods in style this weekend!
God bless

Route 66 is a splendid one to behold
Love my SFU after 17.9 miles from the dealer to home! 20.9 mpg on that short trip, city/country mix with a bit of idling and jackrabbit starts. Fun! Plan to take it into the mountains tomorrow.

Matt'sGC is on a distinguished road
Re: 2014 GC "EcoDiesel" OWNERS!!! Review..

Hi, my name is Matt and I am a dieselholic. It has been 6 says since I last drove a gasoline-powered vehicle and I feel empowered.
Empowered you ask? Yes, once you get used to the 420 lb-ft of torque and addicting low growl of the L630 DOHC engine you feel as though you have risen above ordinary vehicles.

Alright, enough with the crap: I love this thing.
As some of you have probably read in the production thread, I had a couple initial problems right from the start. I have now ordered 4 vehicles from 3 different manufacturers and this is the first one I have ever had initial problems with. This is also the most expensive vehicle I have ever purchased, so the fact there were problems that did not get noticed in 2 months of 100% BS inspection and then the PDI at the dealer made me so angry I could not sleep well last weekend.
The problems I experienced:
- As someone pointed out there are some minor misalignment issues between the liftgate and driver’s side tail light.
- The cruise control would either not set, or cancel on its own if engaged.
- Partially depressing the brake pedal and releasing would continue to engage the brakes lightly. The brake lights would remain lit after release as well.
- The traction control warning lamp would turn on and remain on until restart.
- The tail lamps in the liftgate did not illuminate at all.

I brought my Jeep to the dealer first thing in the morning. The code that flashed up during the scan was C0042/62 – Brake Pedal Position Sensor. The dealer explained to me that it must not have been calibrated correctly at the plant. There was a 6 page instruction list the dealer had to follow to re-calibrate the sensor. Once this was done, everything worked properly.

Design of Vehicle: I rate this 9.5/10 Jeep engineers and product designers should really take a bow for this revised Grand Cherokee. It is well thought out, built very well for the money, and an overall delight to drive. I was immediately impressed with the quality of the leather and interior surfaces of my Jeep, and I only got the Limited model. The seats feel soft to the touch and there are no areas that are unpleasing to the fingers. I love the interior lighting, very well thought out (plus I like blue). When I drive the Jeep around it feels very sturdy, to understand this you need to test drive a Santa Fe, Sorrento or Rav4 in comparison. Unlike those models I do not feel the wind pushing me around when it gusts around the Windy City. The EVIC screen is the coolest thing I’ve seen in an instrument panel. Don’t like the display? Change it. I can monitor most everything I would want to, and it has very sharp resolution. The 8.4NAV is brilliant, not only is it biggest in class but very simple to use. I’ve test driven Fords with MyFord touch and I hated it. It did not take me long to get used to the system at all. Plus, if you do not like using the screen you have actual buttons and knobs as a backup – a rarity in vehicles these days.

Powertrain: 10/10
The diesel engine is a big hit. It has that diesel growl that I like, but not so loud that it is annoying. When I gunned it from a stop it did take 2-1/2 seconds for the turbo to spool up but when it did I felt like I had strapped my ass to a catapult, and I didn’t push the pedal to the floor. I passed a person on a 2 lane road accelerating from 50 to 65 and I was around them much faster than expected. I can hear the engine inside the cabin, but I like it. It doesn’t let me forget that I bought a diesel, but I like that sound. It is great on fuel mileage, when I maintain speed on a flat surface I can easily get 30+: in a 5143 lb vehicle at 65mph! I have noticed that the mileage suffers a lot when the engine is cold, so during short trips you will see a drop in your average MPG’s. The 8-speed transmission feels smooth, no perceptible shift vibrations no matter what your acceleration or deceleration rate is. I am impressed with this German built component. That being said, I have not tried the paddle shifters. I am not a big proponent of those.

Things I would like to see changed / added:
I would like to see more startup options selectable. For example: during the winter and I remote start the vehicle I will always want the front and rear defroster on. You cannot select this as an option.
If I change the balance/fade settings for the sound it should save my preferences. I have to change it each time I drive.
The seat heater works well on the back, but cannot feel it on the butt like my wife’s Jetta, this needs improvement.
I would like a turbo oil temperature sensor so that I know for sure when it is safe to shut down the engine without damaging anything.
Of course I’m going to ask that the Brake Pedal Position Sensor is calibrated correctly!

Overall: I am very pleased with the vehicle, Jeep has a big hit with the Grand Cherokee and to me the diesel engine makes it fun, fuel efficient, and a great utility choice as well.

Re: 2014 GC "EcoDiesel" OWNERS!!! Review..

Day 2: Drove from New Orleans to St Louis. 12 hour trip. Tired, but had a good drive. Today broke the 1000 mile mark. Have filled the tank a few times. Today speed ranged from 75 to 80 MPH for most of the trip, and the mpg was slightly down to 28.5 mpg. Getting close to 700 miles per tank, but out of habit, filling when it reaches a quarter tank, even though it says I still have 200+ mile driving range left. Compared EVIC mpg - vs - actual mpg, and was within 0.5 mpg. Still having intermittent shimmy around 70, but no rhyme or reason, as sometimes it has the shimmy, and other times it doesn't. Almost seems to shimmy when I have been driving a while, then get off the freeway for a short bit. When I get back on is when I really notice the shimmy, then it lessens/goes away after awhile. Adaptive cruise is incredible, and drove most of the day with it. Still intermittently having the smell everyone is having (I say cat piss, wife says dead fish). It too comes and goes. Thought it would have been gone by now. Uconnect is something in and of itself. Still finding new buttons and features. Lots to learn. Just when you thought you knew all the settings menus, you look in some obscure place, and there is a whole new menu of different settings.
Torque is incredible. Turbo lag takes a little getting used to. At first, you give it gas, and it doesn't move for what seems to be about a second, then BAM - takes off. Problem is since it is not moving for that second, you give more gas, so when the turbo kicks in, you spin the tires, and are off like a rocket. Learning to go easier on the pedal till the turbo kicks in, then adjust the throttle as necessary. This thing will smoke the 2004 JGC I replaced, and it had a 4.7L HO engine - and I thought that was fast - it has nothing on this baby.
This is a brief overview, and will give a full in-depth review Sunday night when I get home and have time to go over everything. Still have not gone over the Jeep 100%, and want to do that before I give the full review.
Congrats to all getting their jeeps.
Tomorrow we are spending half the day in St Louis, then heading up to Cedar Rapids.

Re: 2014 GC "EcoDiesel" OWNERS!!! Review..

I'm curious if those who are commenting on the turbo lag have tried turning eco mode off? I definitely notice, especially from a dead stop, that there is a fair lag before the butt gets sucked into the seat with eco mode on, but when I turned eco mode off it was much less noticeable. Instead of virtually no power initially, I found it pulling pretty well, and then it started pulling even more.

And when not going from a dead-stop, especially when in sport mode, I don't really notice a lag.

I think at least some of the lag is more about the computer mappings in eco mode than the turbo.
