2014 JGC Ecodiesel February '14 build

Hi folks,

This is my first time posting and I thought I would share my experience with my White JCG Ecodiesel, Limited, ORAII, Luxury package. I currently have 9k miles on the truck. This forum has been valuable in learning about this particular engine/transmission combo. I thank you for that!

Tonight while driving home in the rain from the Denver airport my passenger rear tire caught a railroad tie and had a massive loss of air pressure very quickly at 70mph. The truck gave me a warning and I could see the pressure drop from 36psi to 0psi on that particular tire. I was able to pull over in a safe place to change the tire. That's not my real reason for posting though...

Tomorrow the truck is due for another visit to the dealer. This will be the 4th time. The first 3 times were software related and they were solved with one of the recent TSB's (Check engine light, low DEF, Engine will not start in XXX miles etc.).

For its 4th visit, it will get the transmission shift quality software update as well. The 8speed transmission almost knocks my coffee out of my hands while coming to a stop. Hope this software fix does the trick.

What is also getting checked is a serious engine mis-fire issue. When the truck is warm and I leave it in a parking lot for 10-20 minutes, I restart it and the engine will mis-fire 10-15 times while in idle. Once I step on the gas, it goes away. It has now turned into mis-firing at highway speeds between 60-65 MPH on a pretty regular basis. The diesel I use is high quality and is the recommended ultra low sulfur stuff. If the dealer can't replicate this issue, i surely hope the computer is logging the mis-fires.

All in all, I love the engine and the truck, but I am starting to think they released this particular drive train prior to serious on road/real world testing. It has been in the shop more times in 6 months than my 3 year old X5!

Re: 2014 JGC Ecodiesel February '14 build

Ok, so here is the other side of that....ours is a Valentine's Day 2014 build.

Our JGC Overland Diesel (ORAII, ATG) has logged just shy of 10k, mainly highway miles about 80/20. So far, not one issue....no tranny problems (it shifts smoothly/great!) and no CEL / codes thrown. Only software update I've installed is the UConnect 14.25.05.

Sorry to hear about your problems but this really is one fine vehicle and I'm sure they will get yours sorted.

Thanks Philbytx. I hope I didn't come across as a complainer, just getting a bit frustrated. I sure hope things get resolved. I'll keep you posted.

That's bad luck and I don't understand why these problems appear on a few vehicles while most seem OK. We have a Feb.14 build too and it has been faultless so far - just coming up on 5000 miles. Hope you get it sorted.

Re: 2014 JGC Ecodiesel February '14 build

Sounds like they need to perform an injector test on your ride. If you have a sticky injector solenoid, it'll usually first misbehave when cold and progress to doing it more often.

Someone else on here had a bad injector with rough idle and a new injector fixed it.

Re: 2014 JGC Ecodiesel February '14 build

Update:
The Jeep went into the dealer.

1) They replaced my tire which had a large railroad spike in it. Done well at a reasonable price.

2) They also updated the software to fix the harsh transmission shifting issue. The told me to drive the truck for 200-300 miles so as to have the transmission learn my driving style again. VERY harsh shifts still present after 200 miles. Harsh enough to spill your coffee...and I am not joking, because it has actually spilled my coffee. I am calling the dealer back on this issue.

3) They did not address the cylinder mis-fires as they could not replicate. The mis-fire sessions have happened 2-3 more times since last week, but it won't throw a check engine light when it happens. How long must it run without a cylinder to throw a code? Do you think it has a stored code without illuminating the check engine light?

Since I leased my JGC, I was considering doing an early return on a different diesel on their lot and just resetting the lease term. Any thoughts on my next step? Should I call Jeep customer care as well as the dealership?

Re: 2014 JGC Ecodiesel February '14 build

Well, I just read some posts in this forum and realized that the "shudder" I feel at highway speeds (50-65mph) may be the transmission! It feels like the engine is missing on 1 or 2 cylinders.

I have called the dealer and made another appt. for Friday morning.

Re: 2014 JGC Ecodiesel February '14 build

Im very surprised. I've gone through 2 tires myself on my 14 sulfur farting unicorn, but that's due to construction debris poking holes in them. Other then that i'm now at 24,000 miles and not one issues.

Re: 2014 JGC Ecodiesel February '14 build

Hey guys,

Thought I would give everyone an update on the situation with my 2014 JGC Ecodiesel Limited w/ approx 9700 miles. It went back into the dealer on Friday. The transmission has gotten to the point where it will sometimes not go into Drive or Reverse on cold start up. The shuddering at highways speeds has turned into shuddering in town from 40-50mph as well. It also had an oil leak that was getting worse and worse. Hence the follow-up visit to the dealer. I got a call from them this afternoon and drum roll please ... They found oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil. I remember checking the oil a few weeks back on a long road trip to Wisconsin and noticed that the clear plastic coolant reservoir was really dark, but I attributed the dark color of the coolant being a new fangled colored coolant like dexcool (sp?). They have now gotten chrysler engineers involved. The truck has not overheated and has been doing city and mountain duty in and around Denver since the trip to Wisconsin. I am at a loss now. This is 5th trip to the dealer. I am now considering sending the official lemon law letter to Jeep Corporate. Any thoughts and/or tips?

Re: 2014 JGC Ecodiesel February '14 build

I would hold out for a new vehicle.
They should, at the least, replace the motor but, given the lack of expertise in most Jeep dealer service departments, I would put heavy pressure on for a replacement vehicle. Have them buy it back from you........

Re: 2014 JGC Ecodiesel February '14 build

Hi, sorry to hear of the troubles, I hate it when stuff goes wrong like that. Sounds to me like you are taking a pretty reasonable approach. I see nothing wrong with going to customer service and letting them know there's a problem. They are likely to come down on your side in dealings with the dealer. I had a friend who used the lemon law here in NY and what a pain that was. Took quite awhile to work it through and GM fought him all the way. You may want to avoid that kind of process. I just bought my 14 diesel in august so I am very interested in your story. Good luck.
