2014 Overland EcoDiesel Compound Twin Turbo Install!

Hey All,

I'm not sure how many of you are members of the EcoDiesel Performance Facebook group, but Ryan Esposito of Espos Diesel Performance has built the 1st Compound Turbo Setup in a 1500 EcoDiesel!

After a few weeks of debating I dropped off my Overland today, for the start of the mock up and fabrication process. Ryan plans to offer a compound turbo kit for the Grand Cherokee for sale shortly after the build is completed. Kory Willis from PPEI will be doing the tuning, and there might be a few Banks Prototypes being tested as well.

Target power numbers are 400HP and 580TQ. This is the "Conservative Numbers" Ryan decided to place on the build keeping fueling and trans within a "safe" range. I'll try and keep this post updated as I get pictures from the build!!

-Chris

This is my dream build! Well, my dream build would be to run numbers like that cleanly, no soot. I wonder if you need injectors, or a different pump? Does the factory head flow that well, rods strong enough? So many questions!

Best of luck, thanks for trailblazing here.

Farfromovin, without giving too much away, I can tell you there will be a Stage 1 (50 Legal) turbo kit.... that being said I have NO CLUE what the power numbers / regen cycle will be like.

I'm having the GDE tune removed because where I live the jeep does a "forced / DPF full" regen every 2 weeks and to my luck its the time I decided to just run to the grocery store. A 10 minute trip turns into an hour. I live in the mountains, need to drive 20 minutes to a highway to complete a regen. Needless to say I will be very happy to not deal with all the DPF issues (my truck has had 2 replacements installed) and buying DEF anymore.

Ryan has been looking into injectors, as well as other things for his RAM but at this point we are more concerned with (in our application) T-Case and Trans strength. The 4x4 RAM has a 2wd option they are not all wheel drive like us, the SRT8 guys have had issues with the T-Case Chain stretching with aggressive launches and high power numbers.

I'm also not sure if this has been made public yet so please don't quote me on this especially if the numbers are off by some amount. Our motors have been flow charted / and engineered (on paper) by Banks to be theroeticly maxed out with stock internals around 600HP.

Here's a teaser from Ryan's Truck.

Well, I got a couple years before I pay the Jeep off and I'm not pulling the engine to do turbo work until I own it outright lol. I don't think a single turbo upgrade would be worth it. Lose out on bottom end performance when you go bigger. It's duals or stock for me lol. I think we need an aftermarket heater for our tranny fluid as well as tuning for it as well. Nothing to me would be better than a 400hp diesel WK2 that drives around town like stock but has so much reserve under the go pedal.

Here's a taste of what the kit should sound like.

Neato - I'm in Northern NJ as well but all my $ goes to my racecar so leave most of my normal cars stock.

That's exciting stuff and I'll enjoy watching you play with your Jeep.

Congrats!

PS. I just had GDE remove the message that we needed to remain on the highway for a regen as my wife (it's her car) was never going to do that and really where we live, it's quite difficult at times to even get over 30 mph. It doesn't matter anyways, the OEM tune doesn't tell you it's regen-ing and it works well enough.

I would be careful with that. The GDE Tune let's the soot level go up to 80% vice the factory 65% before a regen. That message warna you before it gets too full. If it goes too high you'll go into limp mode. It's a good warning to have. Just an FYI

Re: 2014 Overland EcoDiesel Compund Twin Turbo Install!

The regen message is purely a customer nice to have feature. It is not necessary, the regens will occur as needed behind the scenes. 80% is just a soot model number and can be anything, it is not reflective of real soot loading.

Re: 2014 Overland EcoDiesel Compund Twin Turbo Install!

Good luck on fitting this on a WK2. I have looked at this and I don't think there is any room for a 2nd turbo without cutting out a lot of stuff and dropping the engine for sure. Trucks have it easy with there large engine bays.
