Re: 2015 Deliveries?

Someone else just posted about a phone call with Jeep. They claimed the production delay was related to certification of an emissions equipment change...

Re: 2015 Deliveries?

I saw that as well. I'm not sure I buy it if in the same thread MOTS is projecting a delivery date of 18 November for my SFU - yet according to the info that member received production won't start until 10 November. While it's entirely possible, 8 days from production to delivery seems pretty fast. Since JNAP hasn't built a diesel in awhile, I'm OK if my diesel spends a couple of days in quality control before it leaves the plant. Though if you believe several of the stories posted here, QC isn't always up to snuff...

fingers crossed!

Upon further investigation, though, the timeline could work out based on the example below:

Built - Pending Inspection: (I) 10/05/2014 08:22 PM CDT Detroit Jefferson Assembly, MI
In Bay At Facility 10/05/2014 10:42 PM EDT Detroit Jefferson Assembly, MI
Staged For Shipment 10/05/2014 10:44 PM EDT Detroit Jefferson Assembly, MI
Plant Release (KZ) 10/05/2014 10:46 PM EDT Detroit Jefferson Assembly, MI

Received by Facility 10/07/2014 10:31 AM EDT New Boston, MI
Loaded On Railcar 10/07/2014 05:28 PM EDT New Boston, MI
Train Arrival 10/08/2014 12:05 AM EDT On Railcar - New Boston, MI
Train Departure 10/08/2014 11:11 AM EDT On Railcar - Carleton, MI
Train Arrival 10/08/2014 02:01 PM EDT On Railcar - Toledo Walbridge Yard, OH
Train Departure 10/08/2014 08:49 PM EDT On Railcar - Toledo Walbridge Yard, OH
Train Departure 10/09/2014 12:14 PM EDT On Railcar - New Castle, PA
Train Departure 10/09/2014 07:03 PM EDT On Railcar - Virginia AV C, MD
Arrived at Destination 10/10/2014 03:08 AM EDT On Railcar - Jessup, MD
Unloaded From Railcar 10/10/2014 03:06 PM EDT Jessup, MD
Departed Facility 10/14/2014 09:29 AM EDT Jessup, MD (on truck to dealer)
Vehicle Delivered to Dealer 10/14/2014 10:30 AM EDT

I ordered from the DC group buy dealership, so I would expect my SFU to follow a similar route to the Jessup, MD rail yard where it will sit a few days before being trucked to the dealer.

Re: 2015 Deliveries?

Yeah, I was skeptical of the answer myself and inclined by nature to agree that they are cannibalizing the engine supply for the pickups. They insisted during my conversation that's not the case and that it's paperwork surrounding an engine/emissions change but wouldn't say what.

I'm inclined to believe them because they gain little by lying and risk a lot.

Plus, go over to mopar.com and look at parts - in the left nav for 2014's you'll see 3.0L Turbo Diesel listed as an engine. For 2015 they don't list the engine. Maybe I'm searching wrong? (2014: Official Mopar 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Parts, Accessories & Service ; 2015: Official Mopar 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Parts, Accessories & Service).

They do list emissions control for both years. (half-way down). The 2015 has a few new parts (or what appear to be new parts) including 68145554AF (a $390 skid plate???)

Not sure why the engine isn't shown, but I have to imagine there's a good reason - like something is changing. Or because they aren't allowed to sell it because they don't have a cert for 2015s.

Don't forget, officially, the RAM's are 2014s vs 2015s and Jeep only has an EPA certificate (as far as I can tell) for 2014 models.

Go to: Advanced Search | Document Index System | US EPA and do a search with "Industry" being "Light-Duty Vehicles and Trucks", model year 2015, and keyword Chrysler. You won't find a result for the 3.0L EcoDiesel. Repeat the search for model year 2014 and you'll find the certificate. The cert allows them to produce model year 2014s through end of this calendar year. They added the RAM to the Grand Cherokee MY 2014 certificate (http://iaspub.epa.gov/otaqpub/displa...d=31870&flag=1) on 1/24/2014.

So long story short: right now they are NOT allowed by law to sell 2015 Diesels in the US. They *may* sell 2014s. But NOT 2015s. Go figure! I'm assuming they are getting the approvals right now and their application is under seal or something. That's likely why the dates have slipped. As I understand it, even minor tweaks to the system require recertification. I can only hope they are in the clear to start Nov 10.

Re: 2015 Deliveries?

Looks like that skid plate is "urea tank"? They don't have that on 2014? They have a plate for the DEF fluid tank but not the injector?

Re: 2015 Deliveries?

I am now being told by the GM of my dealership that my JGC EcoDiesel (which I ordered on 9/22, and is now in D1 status without an estimated delivery date per Milous' system), is 95% likely to be delivered to the dealership on the week of 11/17. According to his system, the vehicle is currently scheduled to be transported from the Detroit factory via rail to the Toledo carrier station on 11/13. I live in an Indianapolis suburb.

This implies that the 11/10 date is being planned on as a manufacturing start date, at least from the perspective of my vehicle's schedule.

Hope this helps!

Re: 2015 Deliveries?

I was confused by that as well, but comparing emission parts side by side 2014/2015 I didn't see that same part. The 2014's and 2015's both list 68164032AB ($52) but only 2105 shows 68145554AF ($390). A Google search of the parts shows LOTS of dealer hits for the $52 one but only a handful of hits for the expensive one, so I'm assuming it's a new part? But... the mopar parts site is a challenge sometimes and I could be *completely* wrong! Maybe it's a true steel plate for it vs. plastic for Trail Rated models? *shrug*

Re: 2015 Deliveries?

Mine is at D1 as well since Monday, but I don't see a ship date listed on the Jeep site. My dealer told me he had a ship date of Nov 12th or 13th though. Has anyone actually taken delivery of a '15 Diesel yet?

No deliveries yet. Earliest "projected delivery" in MOTS (available to supporting members here) is mine at 11/18. There are several now at D1 with projected delivery dates, and more still at D1 with delivery "TBD."
