2015 EcoDiesel - Damaged During Delivery

Our new Overland EcoDiesel arrived today but as soon as we got to the dealership our salesman says he has something to show us outside. I didn’t have a good feeling about the way he said this. He pointed out that the roof was slightly crushed just at the top of the pillars on both sides of the windshield. One side was scratched terribly and crushed downwards about half an inch or so and the other side was crushed downwards almost an inch and the paint was scratched and cracked. It was probably crushed by the hydraulic lifts on the car carrier during transport from Michigan to Ohio.

They estimated near $1700 to repair and offered $1000 discount on the Jeep after they repaired it. I didn’t think that was good offer so I told them to order me another one. I just didn’t feel comfortable since the damage is in an area that I consider sensitive. Who knows if the whole roof is skewed and lead to other problems down the road. I also didn’t like the way they did their math by saying they were losing $2700 on the deal when in reality $1700 of that $2700 was for the repair and I would only be getting $1000 discount.

I didn’t bother trying to negotiate anything for our trouble and we’ll have to wait another 8 weeks for the next new one. We ordered the Jeep on December 15th, so it took just under 8 weeks for this one to arrive and hope the next one will take the same or less. I’ve read some horror stories about 6 month waits for the diesels but hopefully this will not happen to us.

I took a look under the Jeep to see if they’ve changed/improved anything regarding the DEF injector and harness and it looks the same as the 2014 models so I’m glad I purchased one of Dom’s protector plates because we’re going to need it. I doubt they will improve anything in the DEF injector area between now and whenever our next new one gets built, but I can always hope.

I imagine the new paint line is up and running now after the recent shutdown, so perhaps the next build will be with the new paint line. I just don’t know if it makes any difference since ours is Billet Silver. Does anyone know whether the new paint line is doing the Billet Silver and whether I can expect any improvements? I think the old paint jobs were decent, but it would be nice to have a little less orange peel look.

I think you made the right decision. I'd worry about the operation of the pano roof after that... and leaks.

Sorry to hear that. Agree with the others you made the right call to wait for another. Any chance they can find you one on a lot that just arrived? Could save you several weeks of waiting.

The EcoDiesels are not extremely easy to find in general, and when it’s an Overland with Billet Silver – Indigo/Brown, Off-Road Adventure II, and Advanced Technology Group, the herd thins quickly. I’m not in a tremendous hurry… we’ve already got a 2000 JGC Limited with Quadra Drive and a 2008 JGC Limited (diesel) with Quadra Drive II. They’ll get us through the Ohio snow this season. Thanks for your comments.

Very unfortunate, but I would have done the same.

Better luck next time!

I had an '07 and loved it. I did get an DPF delete pipe and do the GDE Eco tune with DPF delete. The power that thing made was astounding and I could surprise many vehicles off the line. It also towed great but in the end I did not like having to deal with the engine running at extremely high RPM just driving down the highway. It really needed the 7 speed transmission that my buddies Bluetec had. I miss that truck but love my '14 Ecodiesel.

Great news that you like your 14 EcoDiesel. Im hoping Ill like the new 8 speed transmissions on the GJC EcoDiesels. Ive rented quite a few different vehicles that have similar transmissions and I definitely notice the difference. It will take some time to get used to driving and I will have to adjust my driving habits.

As far as the delete pipe goes I just dont have the time at this point in my life to have that kind of fun tinkering around with cars like I used to do. If I hit the lottery Im going to build a barn and have all sorts of fun tinkering. I did a Diesel Particulate Filter project in Germany back in 2003 that consumed my life for more than a year building and programming the machine that makes them. Spending all that time in Germany renting diesels and working on that project is what turned me onto diesels in the first place. It would be a shame for me to rip out what put food on the table for quite a while. ha ha.

Re: 2015 EcoDiesel - Damaged During Delivery

And, more importantly, don't mess with it while it is under warranty..........

I had a camshaft wear issue with my Toyota Supra Turbo while it was under warranty and I was doing all my own servicing. I used Toyota genuine parts and Mobil1 and kept oil samples from each change (in old pill containers) and meticulous records. They tried to "obfuscate" when I first took it in but after showing them what I had in the way of records, they replaced the worn parts under warranty right away.

Fortunately, I had already decided to wait until my Supra was out of warranty before I 'got nasty' with it....and I ended up with 350rwhp and no further issues !

Lesson learned......
