2015 JCG diesel fuel leak

Yup, while I haven't had any of the DEF/Cat/injector exhaust issues that most 2014s have, my 2015 was nearly problem free until I saw a few drips on some oily substance on my garage floor. Thought it might be an oil leak but it definitely smelled funny. Brought it to the dealer and two different techs (!!!) said it was the AC condenser - after a real thorough check I'm sure. I pleaded with the service advise to keep it over the weekend and check again after driving it around. Sure enough - they saw the dripping and are now saying it is diesel fuel. Being torn apart as I write this. Car has 1000 miles and about a month of use.

Re: 2015 JCG diesel fuel leak

As far as problems go, a fuel leak is an easy fix and not nearly as dangerous as on a gas car. Depending on parts availability, they should have you driving again quickly.

The fuel systems on common rail engines are actually more simple than the diesels of yesterday. One line in and out of the pump instead of for example an inline mechanical injection pump which has as many delivery valves (and associated seals) as the engine has injectors. The possibilities for fuel leaks were almost endless on older injection systems with worn out seals.

Is it leaking from the front or rear of the vehicle? I just went through a diesel leak.

Thanks,

Matt

Re: 2015 JCG diesel fuel leak

So they diagnosed it as a leaky fuel line with a part that needed to be ordered from the mother ship. Install today or tomorrow - apparently the areas of leakage have already been cleaned, but I'll reserve judgement until I see for myself. The actual drip was right between the doors on driver's side, seeming to collect on or near the skip plate (I have the off road package). I have heard about diesel leaks being safer than gas (and I tried to light the small drippings in my garage to figure out what the hell the fluid was - it didn't ignite so I thought it was an oil leak - but I don't recommend this technique to everyone).

Re: 2015 JCG diesel fuel leak

So another update - two parts failed (still not sure which) and one of them had to be shipped from Italy. Yay for imported parts! So apparently lots of components of the diesel motors are not stocked by Jeep dealers and have to be ordered. Even more annoying, according to the dealer, it has to go to Jeep HQ first before being sent to the individual installer. GC has been out of service for 1 week so far with an ETA on the part install middle of next week.

Latest from the dealer - parts are on backorder in Italy. Apparently one fuel line split and another had its specialized fitting crushed. No aftermarket parts available. So awaiting the slow boat from Italy with both items. Dealer thinks both were crushed during manufacturing. Been in shop for two weeks with no end in site. Trying to get a loaner truck at this point.

Ya unfortunately sounds like maybe an install mistake. That area where the leak is at is right where the diesel-water separator and the main lines are.

Re: 2015 JCG diesel fuel leak

Finally got the GC back after 35 days or so in the shop - dealer and Chrysler HQ were very apologetic, but car had to be fixed with overseas parts so I had to wait it out. Parts involved the hose and clamping parts near the fuel filter and was likely damaged during assembly. So far seems 100% fixed.
