Re: 2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

Quick update....still waiting on dealer to get my rockrails. Really want to avoid parking lot dings is main reason for this..plus I like the rugged look.
Filled her up today...1.096 / ltr at Pioneer fuel. No major issue with pumps as to sticky / dirty etc.
Input my numbers into spreadsheet, so first round = ( drum roll please.......) 32.79 mpg...VERY pleased with that...and literally double the Wrangler economy. Mind you most of that was highway but if you consider the car is less than a week in service, I think we can expect some numbers as good as or better than advertised, and that is impressive. Also I was not really trying to achieve big numbers but rather driving as I normally would with respect to speed or acceleration habits. So if I was striving for mileage alone...using cruise at a set speed I'm sure we could improve on this.
And as the car gets "broken in" should play into it too.

Really its not bad at all and t for me it is definitely not a major issue. Perhaps I notice because my other 2 cars are more Sport tuned and are very quick off the line. But I would not trade the ride comfort of the Jeep for either of those. Honestly almost every other vehicle I've ridden in now seems likes a lumberwagon in comparison!
Someone in another post had suggested to go into the controls in U-connect and disable hill descent may reduce turbo lag. I may experiment with that.
Power with the diesel is great and no problem climbing some rather steep hills in our town. I'm sure the 8 speed doesn't hurt either!
The setting you are looking for in the Uconnect is called Hill Hold Assist or Hill Start Assist or something like that...

Re: 2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

thunderbolt, I don't think the rock rails will help for parking lot dings, but they will give you a more rugged look. I haven't scraped yet. I need to install some on mine for the protection. I have scraped the skid plates a few times.

Enjoy the mileage, and it will improve as the engine breaks in. I've posted these elsewhere here - with reasonable driving you can expect:

>> 25 mpg @ 85 mph (9.80 L/100km, 10.20 km/L @ 136.8 kph)
>> 28 mpg @ 75 mph (8.40 L/100km, 11.90 km/L @ 120.7 kph)
>> 34 mpg @ 65 mph (6.92 L/100km, 14.45 km/L @ 104.6 kph)
>> 45 mpg @ 55 mph (5.23 L/100km, 19.13 km/L @ 88.5 kph)

(Used for the metric conversions: Convert Fuel consumption, Miles per gallon)

I got those numbers at near sea level on mostly flat highways in very little wind, transmission locked in 8th, cruise control on (also, the A/C was on), stock suspension and 265/50-20 Goodyear Fortera tires at 38PSI. I recently duplicated and verified these values (posted here: Eco Diesel Mileage).

Enjoy!

thunderbolt, are those imperial gallons? my best tank was something like 740 miles with a little over a gallon left. ended up being 30.1 mpg (us gallons)

good to hear about the window deflectors, I plan on ordering a set as well.

edit: for what its worth, I noticed zero difference in turbo lag when disabling HSA...

Yes for us in Canada we calculate in imperial gallons.
And for conversion sake 1 gal = 4.54 ltrs / 1 mile =1.6 kms
I still don't have my rear deflectors on yet...been busy and its been raining here a lot

Re: 2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

Update Sat May 16.
TROUBLE in paradise!!!
Car is now 1 week in my possession. 1089 km on the clock. Out of town making some wedding
arrangements with my son and fiance. Cruising on the expressway and car suddenly starts sending error messages on the dash...."service shifter, low tire pressure" ...bunch of other lights. Car goes into "limp mode" so we're going like 30 mph tops ... trying to make it to an exit to get off expressway.
Car shuts down completely and we're coasting. Got as far as the end of "merge lane" ...pull over... car says " shut down to engage park". So now we're sitting ducks. Lots of long week end traffic whizzing by...turn on 4 way flashers so we don't get slammed into. Call Chrysler Roadside Assist.
About 40 minutes with her trying to get wrecker arranged and establish where exactly we are located as she is obviously not familiar with our locale. No sooner did we hang up from the call, and the car went totally dead...no power so now flashers are off. We climb out as car is getting warm. Cops come by and park behind us so at least we won't get crashed into. About a 40 minute wait and wrecker does come along. We can't get any response from car so we can' t get into neutral. We decide to mount on dolleys but wrecker needs assist so he calls in another guy. Eventually we get rigged up and my son and I ride with wrecker to dealer.
We had called ahead to dealer to discuss and see if we could arrange a loaner. No such luck plus dealer was closing at 2 pm (it was about 1:45 at the time)
He said there was a car rental place right next door..did he have phone info?...no. So while we're waiting for wrecker we start calling around car rentals. Hoilday week end here and everyone we called
( except one) is closed. Really??? Geeesh. Anyway we find one guy but no car available till next morning. Which is ok as we were staying over anyway.
So we haul car to dealer....drop in their lot. Car is dead so can't get my window up which had been down all along. So we lock up what we can in glovebox and drop key in dropbox.
So current state is
- car is at an out of town dealer till Tuesday at least...dead in the water and driver side window open.
- I am driving a Toyota Corolla rental ...rental guy is located about 10 miles from the dealer lot.
- upside may be that I do often work in this city and was already planning to be in town Tuesday anyway.
- how long will it take dealer to fix?
- not my dealer so will these guys be any good ? At least I have a comfort zone with my local guys here in town.
Tuesday morning will be a phone call to out of town dealer to see what and when they can look at car.

That's sucks. At least you didn't get rear ended while you were waiting for help. Hopefully it's just something simple. Good luck.

I'm so sorry to hear that TB. Unreal. Hopefully this dealer will get this figured out quick. Sounds electrical of some sort. Must have been hairy being on a busy hwy with that happening

Keep us posted.

Read similair reported issue out there, the big plug under the drivers seat was one fix(loose pins) other was BCM module.

Gotta love a dealer bailing out when you're down with new car....

Re: 2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

Apparently dealer is open at 7:30 so I will stop in to disuss live on my way into head office where I have been working a couple days a week of late.
Yeah it does seem to me to be some sort of electrical glitch as there were various codes coming up.
I am hoping dealer can troubleshoot and resolve Tues so I can return rental and bring car back home.
I'll post Tues nite results.
It will also be interesting to see if Chrysler steps up to cover my rental cost.
My home town dealer would most likely have gotten me a loaner at least.
Been a customer there for about 15 years now.

If you have the 7/160 warranty through them and it's the gold plan I think it covers at least some of the rental?

Re: 2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

Stopped into out of town dealer on my way into head office this morning. Discussed issue.
Called at 1 pm for update...hadn't been looked at yet....called again @ 4pm...car in shop but not fixed.
Drove home... (2 hours from where car is stranded)
Plan to check status tomorrow after lunch....
I did speak with my local dealer and they are taking an active interest.
Did some checking here on similar issue and found a couple of possible solutions I will
share with dealer if they can't sort out on their own.
I am still fairly sure this is an electrical issue that can be resolved.
Sure hope so...love the car outside this issue.
