Re: 2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

Update as of Thurs June 4
Earlier this week dealer got the part and installed. Like before, dealer took home to fully test drive.
And again it failed on the drive into the dealership next morning. So, more calls to FCA tech support.
While he waited, dealer again took jeep home,, and return to lot next morning...and lo and behold ...no issues...WTH ? So dealer calls and gives me his take on it...seems there is a wiring harness that he feels is faulty, as it is the only thing they were messing around with (shaKe, jiggle whatever) that made the car run well. So, we now have a harness..on b/o but flag priority to expedite.
Through all this, I gotta give a shout out to this dealer for their diligence and desire to make this right.
I think there a few out there that would have returned my jeep couple times now, as it has behaved at least sporadically. As much as I'm frustrated, and wanting my new vehicle, I sure don't want it back till its fixed for once and for all. I am of the opinion that the parts that have been replaced to date, have been for nothing cause I think the fault codes are false-positives.
So far 3 parts been replaced...another on order.
7 days in service, 21 days off road which looks to be closer to 25+ at this point.
FCA did call me 2x this week, but they don't have anything to add beyond the fact that they are aware, and area manager is also in the know. I am curious to see what they will offer as compensation or to make good for all the troubles here.
So maybe I'll have a Jeep next week....or not.

Re: 2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

We had an issue similar to this on the WKs where the OEM battery got old (started at 3-5 years) it leaked acid down and onto the harness which was right underneath it. The issues would be varying, sporadic and difficult to pinpoint until one person replacing a leaking battery noticed the acid leaking onto the harness. The worst case scenario was the PCM would fail and needing replacement (several thousand) and the harness which required 6-7 hours of labor to replace (engine removal).

Re: 2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

Pardon my ignorance but are the batteries on the WKs under the hood?

Both batteries on my Cummins were under the hood. You can imagine my surprise to learn the battery for the WK2 diesel was in the cabin.

Yes they were under the hood on the WK and over the engine wiring harness and the OEM batteries would leak.

I ALSO HAVE THE 7/160 and it does cover rentals. You should check this on the Gold Plan information. Mine is a GC Sumiit Eco and I bought the 7/160 for $4k + tax. I have 8000kms so far. Love the mileage. Sounds like you have a loose connector or even a loose battery connection under the passenger seat. Best of luck and let us know the outcome.

QUOTE=thunderbolt;1181146]Apparently dealer is open at 7:30 so I will stop in to disuss live on my way into head office where I have been working a couple days a week of late.
Yeah it does seem to me to be some sort of electrical glitch as there were various codes coming up.
I am hoping dealer can troubleshoot and resolve Tues so I can return rental and bring car back home.
I'll post Tues nite results.
It will also be interesting to see if Chrysler steps up to cover my rental cost.
My home town dealer would most likely have gotten me a loaner at least.
Been a customer there for about 15 years now.[/QUOTE]

Sorry, ignore my last post. Somehow I missed a bunch. Trying to read with an iPad mini at the cottage. Oops.
Best of luck with the dealer.

Re: 2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

Update Tues June 9
Dealer called this morning with an update. The wiring harness we are waiting has an eta of next week ...sometime during the week of June 15th....really? Seems to me they build these units on a daily basis and somewhere there is a bin full of this part. I also had a vc mail from FCA rep basically repeating the same info. I plan to call her back with the message I just said here.
So, for the count, considering the car brokedown on May 16, we're talking 30+ days off road.

While I wait, I am giving some thought as to what I should expect or request from FCA as compensation for all this. Rental cost is a given...beyond that ? I certainly feel they owe me something
for my troubles and patience, but not sure what....anybody got any thoughts as to what might be reasonable to expect or request?
Looking forward to being a Jeep owner again someday soon ....sigh.

I don't get why they couldn't pull one from inventory.

I'd be fighting for a free 7/160 warranty over this one bud.

Re: 2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

Recently our dealer's shuttle backed into our Overland while it was parked in their lot. They're covering the replacement parts and labor, gave me a rental and I'll be going for some sort of service package. Free oil changes and the like for roughly the difference between a month's payment for the rental 200 and my overland. The Service Advisor I work with is thinking of a $500 service package, I don't know the details on that yet but if you get something for oil changes make sure it's for a long time period. Our Diesel is around 10K miles between oil changes so far.

That's my suggestion for compensation, something the dealer can easily "eat". I don't expect them to write me a check or buy something new for me, that's unreasonable in my book.

Yeah I agree about the harness...I mean the factory gotta have 'em to build with right?

Good suggestion on the warranty...I was thinking something along that line and include lifetime service for the unit ... if you recall that is what I was originally trying to get when I bought the Jeep.
