2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

So, picked up my Overland Eco Diesel on Sat May 9.
Will post driving impressions and general observations over the next few weeks.

Thrilled with my color choice both inside and out. Max steel is an interesting color in that it changes in different lighting. Blue, gray, sometimes looks almost black.

Dealer did a decent job cleaning her up before pick up and filled full of fuel.
I note a bit of glue residue on windshield from window stickers, but should clean up with a bit of alcohol base cleaner and maybe a razor scraper. As previously said in another thread, my unit came with chrome rail steps, which I personally don't care for so dealer removed at my request. The rock rails I ordered turned out to be wrong as they ordered wrong sku # and fit a JKU Wrangler, so, correct ones are rerdered and should be here in a day or two. The others have already been sold off. My chrome steps are in my storage barn and will be posted for sale on kijiji in a few days by me. Mopar hood deflector and splash guards look great! I installed Weathertec window deflectors on driver and passenger fronts so far...still have rears to do.

I note we have a squeek coming from passenger side somewhere..possibly the headliner issue others have had. I will trouble shoot over the next couple of weeks, or as a last resort let dealer fix.

Driving impressions thus far are favourable. I do notice the turbo lag but really not a big issue. I may try the fix that has been suggested by disabling hill descent control. Power is great and very smooth; ride is comfy and a huge diff coming from a Wrangler LOL. Still kinda playing with U-connect and various options. Tried out heated seats and steering wheel...both nice features along with dual climate controls. Headlifghts are also quite bright and a huge improvement over previous vehicle.

Mileage is wow! 503 km thus far and used 3/8 of a tank. My wrangler got like 15 - 18 mpg so this is a real treat. I have 2 more out of town trips this week yet, so I'll be somewhere around 1500 k this time next week. I will manually track mileage in my excel spreadsheet as I have found computers in cars not to be totally accurate.

Generally very happy with purchase, and looking forward to learning more about the various features it has. Planning first wax job next week end. Goodyear Duratracs will be a fall addition.

+1 on the Weathertech deflectors. They fit front and rear perfect and don't flare out as much as Mopars and others. Love that Maxsteel, Thunder. Enjoy!

Weathertecs fit great! Mind you I sliced up my finger as I installed and then decided to re seat
So in the process of removing got my finger caught and edge cut me...ouch! Think of a paper cut only thicker.
Dash I guess is supposed to be the ...well lets call it Denim blue like the seats, but it looks darker to me. Mind you I do seem to struggle to distinguish between dark blue and black.
Mileage continues to amaze me...850 km's as of today and still 1/4 tank remains.
So lets call it 1100 - 1150 km per tank. Plan to top up tomorrow then calculate actual fuel mileage.
Also got to experience front collision avoidance system today. 2x actually. So I can verify it does work.Neither instance would have resulted in crash but car does respond quicker than me apparently. The first one was a deal where there was a car on the highway in front of me..slowing to make a left turn. Rather than use brakes, I choose to ease up on throttle and kinda decide if they're gonna be gone when I get there, and if need be, then apply brake. Car decided I was too slow to decide so warning beeper goes off..red flashing on dash and brakes applied. 2nd time car 2 ahead of me decides to make a last minute stop / turn..causing the guy directly in front to make a sudden stop..so my car jumps on brake same time as me. So definitely a safety feature in this one.

What exactly do you mean by this: "Driving impressions thus far are favourable. I do notice the turbo lag but really not a big issue. I may try the fix that has been suggested by disabling hill descent control." Never heard of this...

Re: 2015 Overland Eco Diesel - comments / observations

thunderbolt, nice rig. I too want to know the HDC & turbo lag answer. My gas flap wasn't aligned well.it's a complete unit, flap arm and inner casing. Dealership said it's not like they could bend the arm to fix the alignment. After a couple of visits and discussions (visits for other reasons also, not just this) they replaced the whole unit. It's aligned better but still not perfect. Hope yours is perfect.

Also, before I bought the JGC I rented some Wranglers. I found the ride too harsh, and the JGC nice and comfortable. Maybe for me & SWMBO it's an age thing, we are middle aged.

Enjoy your new JGC CRD!

FYI stitching is the same blue as dash and seats.

The turbo does seem to have a SLIGHT hesitation...mostly I notice from a standing stop.
Really its not bad at all and t for me it is definitely not a major issue. Perhaps I notice because my other 2 cars are more Sport tuned and are very quick off the line. But I would not trade the ride comfort of the Jeep for either of those. Honestly almost every other vehicle I've ridden in now seems likes a lumberwagon in comparison!
Someone in another post had suggested to go into the controls in U-connect and disable hill descent may reduce turbo lag. I may experiment with that.
Power with the diesel is great and no problem climbing some rather steep hills in our town. I'm sure the 8 speed doesn't hurt either!

Well I guess I'll call myself middle aged too...birthday 60 end of this year. Not sure how the hell that happened....seems to me I was like 30 something not so very long ago LOL
Fuel door seems ok...I'll be doing first major wash / shine next week end ( no time till then) so that is when I will go over to look for any flaws or imperfections. Beyond the minor rattle on passenger side, nothing obvious out of the norm thus far.
