Well, I know that but thanks for restating it. Makes me feel better.

Or do you think any changes to the emissions systems, etc. would just be running changes? Any ideas? Thoughts?

Just posted this in a different thread:

Brand new owner of a 2015 GC Limited diesel, traded in my 2012 GC Limited Hemi and thinking it was a big mistake. Only 500 or so miles and the MIL light just came on. Also before I was getting on the fwy today the truck stalled for a sec with a warning of low voltage. Checked the OBD and it stated 13v so who knows what happened. I am also a victim of only getting a quarter tank of DEF fuild upon delivery She will go into the shop on Thursday but they are already refusing to provide me with a loaner, unreal!

800 miles an no MIL light here. Sorry you're having trouble, but I don't think your experience is typical in that regard.

The quarter tank of DEF is a blessing or a curse, depending on who you listen to. Some say 1/4 tank is good so you can refill more frequently and have constantly fresh DEF. Others say that the $30 or so to fill it themselves is something that the dealer should handle. Chrysler says the dealer is supposed to fill it at time of retail delivery, not at PDI time (to prevent it going stale on the lot), so it gets missed.

I had the same problem with 1/4 tank DEF on delivery and explained it to a local dealer (bought from another several hours drive away due to lack of inventory locally). They hooked me up for free with a DEF fill from their brand new 50 gallon drum.

7k Miles on my 2015 (Dec 2014 build date) Overland EcoDiesel here, no MIL or any other problems of note! Figured I would throw it out there to try and balance out the forum's ability to find the people with all the poor experiences (not that they have any less right to voice their opinion!)

Re: 2015 vs. 2016 Ecodiesel

The good thing about 1/4 tank full is that you can make the dealer provide you with new bottles and add them yourself. In the summer if you live in a very hot climate you'll want to add a 2 1/2 gallon jug at a time to keep the DEF in the tank fresh. Try to park in shade as it can be 20 cooler surface temp on a hot sunny day as well. DEF is perishable and the hotter the ambient temp of where it sits the faster it will go bad.

I've got 18k miles on my '14 and it's going strong and giving me an avg of 24-27 mpg throughout the year. Hwy I've been getting low 30's on average as well so the payback on these is a lot faster than you think over the Hemi which is getting ~ 30% less mpg on average than the Ecodiesel can do. Towing is an even greater delta as the diesel option can get you 50% better mpg than the Hemi. It's a problem that stems from the EPA's testing program and how they determine window sticker EPA MPG. EPA is a lab dyno test and not real world and most vehicles today are not even done that way but they use algorithms that take into effect drag, weight and apply it to known EPA from a model with the same engine. For instance the diesels don't do very well in EPA testing as the test is designed for gas models that are allowed to lug up to slow speeds. Proof of this is the well known fact that gas cars almost never meet EPA especially turbo'd engines such as the Eco or Boost Fords and how owners never get close to EPA in real world unless they hypermile (and stay off boost - but the problem is that the low compression smaller motor is undersized to move the rig). Motor Trend has a nice article on the '15 F150 and it's lackluster mpg even when they drive it nicely.

Re: 2015 vs. 2016 Ecodiesel

Now 18K miles. In to the dealer for flash updates only and the fuel nozzle pickup which came loose. I have done two oil changes and posted my Blackstone results at the first oil change.
Wonderful vehicle I get 30 mpg driving 2nary roads and usually 28 on the interstate at 74-77 mpg.
I am NO fan boi either and I would be reporting if mine was a dud.
Built 19 DEC 13 picked it up 3 FEB in Houston and been loving it since.
Wait all you want but nothing in life is certain.
I sprang for the extended service plan at 8 years/ 120K miles and that should really provide peace of mind for 1950 bucks.
I am guessing my tires will go well past 50K miles at their present wear rate too...

Just rolled 32k since August and it has been flawless. Like stated above, don't let the forums scare you, they are very solid diesels.

Re: 2015 vs. 2016 Ecodiesel

Just reporting back from my earlier report in this thread.

November 2014 build of a 2015 model year. A little over 10K miles and still never had a MIL.

I drive 95% highway with heavy loads, though, so I'm pretty much the perfect use case for a diesel Jeep.

Re: 2015 vs. 2016 Ecodiesel

Don't understand where the question got lost. But I heard the 2016 is getting rid of the electronic shifter we now have. They are replacing it with a normal shifter, since folks have been screwing up leaving it latched in reverse. I thought it was cumbersome at first, but I got used to mine. There have been federal safty reports on this issue. That is why I heard the changed the shifter.

Re: 2015 vs. 2016 Ecodiesel

Suggest you consider a GDE tune, as well. I also added AFE air filter and Mopar tow hooks. With the tune, I feel comfortable that the EPA won't prematurely kill my Jeep and leave me stranded with a CEL.

Don't turn this thread into another gear shift one. We are 3 months into 2016, you 'heard' they were getting rid of it? Yeah, they did. We've known this for like 5 months.
