Ok, you do it for less I'll bring to your shop? Typical forum mentality, I got a quote from 3 jeep dealers, ranged in price from $280, $295 and $365 for fuel filter replacement.

I just find it to be a striking juxtaposition that you are savvy enough to do UOA and you are also willing to disregard the owner's manual to run potentially warranty-voiding high-ash engine oil based on your personal assessment of the tradeoffs in having organometallic lubricating agents present, but ostensibly you aren't interested to do your own simple fuel filter replacement at a cost savings of ~$200.

Obviously this is your choice and your money, but are you simply pressed for time at the moment? It seems like someone like you wouldn't be challenged by this particular procedure. Not trying to cross-examine you... I'm merely quizzical.

That's a great deal! Do you have any links to low cost fuel filters?

I've run oil, specially during run in first 15k, that was API CJ4, after review of the additive package, viscosity, and ash content, I felt it to be suitable for my Jeep. Since then I've run Euro-L but may run CJ4 oils again. I read a white paper written on a diesel engine recently that showed the best results using Exxon Elite airplane oil, 0 Ash! Only problem its only sold in 20W-50, too high viscosity for our engines.

Its at the shop as it is for multiple reasons, I had them throw in the fuel filters while its there, again I'm out of town as it is. I don't have a lift at home to make working under the jeep easy; I was an ASE CMAT and worked as Journeymen Mechanic for 2 years after my apprenticeship, but I've since moved on, I'm about 10 years older now and can't move as easy, but they were fun days.

I'd say 80% or more Ecodiesel owners won't be doing more than topping up washer fluid, and this thread was intended for them.

They may flow too much or be too restrictive, may not even be 50% as effective in dirt collection as the factory filters, they may even have tears in the pleating, those filters are for looks not function. When I was in the field a customer had an engine shut down, low fuel pressure, problem with fuel filter, he was using the red can filters, not OEM. If I saw those Chinese filters as a service tech and had any engine issue I would void warranty repairs, maybe a dealership would see it the same way?

Ugh. donotwant. Thanks for pointing that out. Of course, the reflexive search that prompted brought this up.

$1 less than the knockoffs for a set of two (a pair is necessary anyway) with free shipping? Seems like a decent price, and why pay more just to get fakes?
