About to Haul 2100 km one way at around 6k

Hey Guys

I am just preparing my Jeep to haul my LX450 across the Canadian/US border and back for some offroading!! Going to use my 14 Overland ECO-diesel.

I recently purchased a P3 with the harness, the trailer I have has trailer brakes and I know im going to need them getting through the Mountains in Montana and leading up and around Moab......

I will carry an extra bottle of DEF, but what else would you suggest having on hand for a long haul in these Jeeps??? It will be me + another bloak headed south in around I figure a 20-24 hour round trip, so im curious to see what we get for mileage

I have GC 8 speed trans with sport mode, and also paddle shifters.

The 8 speed is silky smooth, can barely feel it shift in auto mode.

You can limit the gear selection for towing which is 7200# on my limited.

Mine has the trailer tow option with rear self leveling shocks.

800 amp battery,220 amp alternator.

Hill start assist.

The trailer package also has an anti sway program built in which is part of the electronic stability control system .

The limits are 64sqft frontal area of trailer and 30ft in length.

The 30ft kind of scares me.

I had to experiment some to get you the answer.

On the new Jeep there is no L1,L2,L3. You have D/S = Drive/sportmode on the shift lever.

NOTE: Step 1) When Selec-Speed or Hill Descent Control is enabled.

2) Paddle Shift mode is not active. Pressing the (+/-) shift paddles in Selec-Speed or Hill Descent Control simply limits the highest allowed gear.

3) Shifts below and up to that gear will occur automatically.

Hill Desent Button is below 4wd low.

BY limiting the trans shifting from 8th gear or any other gear which = Over Drive your trans will not be hunting gears while climbing hills or MTN's this will keep trans temps down!!

Its better on all equipment if you do not lug your motor, if you are in the proper gear for the hill/mtn you are climbing keep rpms down so you are not over reving the motor for the gear you are in and just be happy your still going up at snails pace if need be.

By Limiting gear choice you can keep the motor in the sweeeet spot 1700-2000 rpm where our motors make the best power and torque and should be unstoppable pulling.

Remember you are responsible for what is on your trailer you are towing and the people around you on the roads.

God forbid if you were in an accident overloaded or load not secured properly and the load you are pulling kills someone it will be a butt pucker moment.

We'll considering my jeep was half full at pickup I have since added 3 2.5 gallon jugs into the system, we have around 11000km on it now we are down to just under half again, I really don't trust the it should last 16000km thing.....

I do live in a fairly cold climate though and we saw a lot of -40c this year

On a side note 943 km 8.55 l/100 km average 27.5 mpg

Loaded with my tepui Auntana RTT and about 400-500 in camping gear, lots of mountain roads and a trip through the open prairie winds !!! Excited to see how it performs with the trailer behind going to Moab

If it helps, most Wal-Marts have DEF (and Wal-Marts are practically everywhere with a population). It's obviously not a very popular item, though. In my Wal-Mart the DEF is literally in the back corner of the store (i.e. in the bottom shelf where the interior walls meet).

So, if you burn through your tank + reserve you should easily be able to find some once you get back on pavement.

I hope you enjoy your time in the US!

IF it matters DEF is available at all truckstops either bulk(pump) or bottle

Cool,so I am not the only one buying a "Jeep" to haul is Land Cruisers around ;-)

Curious to find out how your trip goes,I am still waiting on our JGC but already scheduled a trip to pick up a BJ41 in South Dakota and haul it to Texas.

If you have an opportunity you might want to get the complete rig weighed to see how heavy you are. Many truck stops have them.
Good luck!

Everything went well, w noticed the coolant however was low, we took it as an opportunity to add a bottle of water wetter, and than had dodge top the unit up with coolant

She does lack a bit of power at the top of long step climbs towing 7000 lbs

For the most part averaged 13mpg but was at 15mpg on any flat tow
