Re: AFE ecodiesel intake..yay.

first off. I love afe. my favorite brand of cai's and filters. with that said, I wouldn't buy an open style cai. I have before and I didn't have problems, but I believe the heat and the dust, etc. is enough to reduce power (IMO). I do believe the drop in dry filter from afe is the way to go, and if possible to obtain the tube from (afe) or have a custom tube bent for a smother transition to the factory airbox. This is a pic of my intercooler tubes, made by CB engineering, the intercooler is being made as we speak; I plan on asking him about bending a tube to the factory air box. gde tune in box, afe dry drop in filter in box ready to go! I will also be installing the CB engineering down pipe and cat back as soon as hes completed his catback system and tested it. Then full srt brakes, suspension, and wheels!

Re: AFE ecodiesel intake..yay.

They have cool stuff. What is the advantage to the shortened intercooler pipe?

Re: AFE ecodiesel intake..yay.

The kit replaces the restrictive factory intercooler piping and reverses the flow path to reduce the length of tubing and greatly improve performance. This kit improves MPG, reduces EGT's and reduces turbo spool up.

Reverses the flow path huh. Hmmm...could you elaborate a bit more. Shortening the length reduces spool up,time I can see that now.

Stock, the air flows from the turbo outlet, to the front of the vehicle, across the engine bay from the driver's side to the passenger side, through the intercooler back to the driver's side, and finally back to the center of the vehicle where it enters the intake plenum.

CB Engineering's design comes from the turbo to the front of the vehicle, travels through the intercooler from driver's side to passenger side, then to the center of the vehicle where it enters the intake plenum. He removes at least two feet of piping with his design, as well as the plastic resonator thing in the middle. My only dislike of his design is the number of welds he uses to create the piping instead of utilizing a pipe bender to make for a seamless design.

I honestly don't know if his welds affect the airflow inside the piping at all, but I don't care for the appearance, so I haven't invested in it yet. I have been on the fence for awhile, though.

These pictures are from CB Engineering's webpage.
The piping as shown installed in the vehicle appears to have less welds, so if someone has purchased this kit and it does look different than the pictures posted by CB Engineering, please share them.

Re: AFE ecodiesel intake..yay.

The pipe kit seems great, but I too have reservations. Why not just mandrel band?

Mandrel bent, that's the word I was trying to come up with.
