Unhappy Air intake to the air box

Well you can tell I just got my Jeep based on all my questions. Here is another one. I noticed the air intake for the box is just under the hood above the front facia above the driver side headlamp. Which is confusing to me because there is about a 2 ft piece of weather stripping under the hood that seals the hood to the front of the car. How does this unit get air? I guess nothing is air tight and I assume there is all kinds of air swirling around?

Also slightly off-subject but curious. This seems rinky dink to me. On the upper right side of the radiator there are a bunch of hoses that have a cheap pink rubber-band holding them together away from the serpentine belt. This rubber band will not last long with the under-hood heat. I have a 2015. Does anyone else have this silly rubber band. You would think they would have at least some kind of zip tie for this purpose. Seems pretty weak for a 50K vehicle.
Mike

Re: Air intake to the air box

I'm definitely going to take a look.

I feel like kind of a tool for stressing about details that probably have rational explanations, but I DID notice that theres a lot of wire loom thats loose (just hanging, can move it freely). I also appear to be missing a bolt of some kind near my oil cap.

I noticed that too. My guess is the weatherstripping is there to prevent water running into the airbox while fording streams. If it wasn't there, the lower part of the box could fill with water and ultimately interfere with proper airflow. However, if that isn't usually on you daily agenda, probably removing the weatherstripping will lead to freer (and colder) intake air. Just my $0.02, though.

Thrawn86 not to be rude but i guess your a shirt and tie guy lol. Mate they are protective sheafs pretty standard on all cars and the missing bolt is more likely not used in your application. Less stress enjoy your jeep

Re: Air intake to the air box

The weather strip would be exactly that to prevent a direct route for water. It does also draw from beside the headlight on the rhd model the grill is slotted on the lhs to allow airflow

It was an honest question. If wire loom, split tubing or conduit isn't secured at either end, what is it protecting? (and why are 90% of the other lines properly heat-shrunk?)

You're right though, this is obviously a trivial issue. however, inquiring minds want to know&learn.

Re: Air intake to the air box

Remember you brought a jeep assembled on an assembly line for a cost. Labour is expensive so if you wanted something hand built with no time limits or budget maybe its not the car for you lol mate everything is built to price time to enjoy and stress less it aint going to fall apart. Its how the product is used.
