Meh. It was either that or literally nothing. They had nothing else left, and even turned away another customer while I was there. I just wanted to get out of there after spending an hour waiting around. Going back and demanding an exchange is a possibility for next time, weighing the dissatisfaction with the minivan vs having to spend yet another hour (or whatever) waiting for a replacement vehicle. Furthermore, aside from a JGC I rented once, I have never been in a rental that wasn't literally slimy to the touch inside from all the febreeze, former occupant bodily fluids, or whatever other unspeakable horrors. It's not like being in practically any rental is a delightful experience.

The only solace comes from the adage "beat it like a rental" (the corollary to that is "never buy a vehicle that has come off rental service")

Anyway, it's moot because the dealer swears the Jeep will be finished tomorrow.

4 days in the shop for a timing chain cover oil leak. I'll keep using the Mopar filter.

Re: Any aftermarket oil filters yet?

Us Australians have Oil, Air and Fuel filters available in Ryco, whose filters meet or exceed OEM specs, and cover new vehicle warranty.

Oil is # R2737P, fuel is # R2745P, comes as a pack of 2, and Air is A1848.

Devils advocate....can you provide proof those filters off EBay were made to OEM specs ?"

For you U.S. guys, I'm sure there will be good aftermarket filters available for the Jeep. Always have been for other makes.
For us here in Australia, we have Wesfil and Ryco. Both good brands, both been around a long time, both have quality which is right up to spec, both a FRACTION of the price (under $20 compared to about $84, which is pure extortion..) I've been using Ryco filters for maybe 45 years on all my vehicles, and Wesfil for five or more.
It's illegal under Australian law to knock back warranty because different branded after market filters or other parts are used, unless they can PROVE quality is NOT ok. I suspect it'll be the same in your part of the world, just ask at your local Pep Boys or somewhere similar.

Without laws like that, manufacturers could charge $1,000 for a filter!
(Ryco and Wesfil come with their own warranties WRT quality.)

Manufacturers just love using scare tactics to justify their rip off prices. And they absolutely love people who are prepared to pay the extortionate prices.

Meh. I don't find saving $20 on a $130 DIY oil change (i.e. the price difference between knockoff filter and Mopar) to be worth the risk of having to take Chrysler to court to have Magnuson-Moss enforced. I'm already irked that the dealer tried to sneak a fifth day in the shop for my Jeep's engine timing chain gasket leak fix. $20 per year is cheap compared to extraneous headaches.

Conversely, if there is an air filter that offers superior protection compared to the OEM fail filter (therefore, nothing made by aFe) I'd be willing to pay more for better protection. Then again, my OEM replacement fail filter is great after 12 months, with no gasket tears. I'm careful not to stress the gasket, though... perhaps airbox closure technique is playing a role in the gasket damage.

Re: Any aftermarket oil filters yet?

OK I am the guinea pig for the Korean made oil filter. I took pics of the oil filter and new filter. Also using Pennzoil Ultra Euro L which is one of our approved oils.
Blackstone oil sample taken at 9,910 miles since last change and 36, 276 miles total. Will report the results of the current same to include TBN.
As you can see from the pictures the O ring is higher on this filter than the oil filter. I have no oil pressure issues like some of the Ram 1500s do and this filter looks like the original filter I took out regarding O ring location. I will see how this filter does and report back in 10K miles. With Mahle producing filters I will most likely keep the other two Korean filters and go Mahle which I have extensive experience with.

Re: Any aftermarket oil filters yet?

I just installed the second aFe proGuard oil filter (Korean made) in my 2014 Turbo diesel.

The proGuard I replaced had been in for 10,100 miles and after close inspection I found no sign of any separation in the pleated filter medium. I could not tell any difference between it and the 8 Mopar filters I had changed previously as I am at 98,000 miles.

I purchased the last 2 proGuard's through Amazon prime for $29. It's a little savings and appears to be a good after market option.

Re: Any aftermarket oil filters yet?

Any updates with the aftermarket oil filters for the diesel? I generally stick to OEM but any feedback on the other options would be appreciated.

I'm using the MAHLE right now. It was only designed to work with the 2014 Jeep Ecodiesel. No issues so far.
