Re: Any aftermarket oil filters yet?

I've seen some highly-questionable Chinese knockoffs on eBay that have been priced higher than the genuine Mopar filters, but that's it.

RockAuto.com has one for $27.79. HASTINGS FILTERS Part # LF696. I haven't tried it yet, but plan on it for my next oil change.

Re: Any aftermarket oil filters yet?

I just purchased 3 for an eBay retailer. I compared the two factory to the eBay one and can not notice much difference at all. Given that this type of filter not this exact filter is used by millions of cars it isn't a real stretch for this product to be fairly good. I am surprised Mann, Mahle and other European manufacturers are not aboard yet. Must be a volume deal but with the Ram 1500 diesel using the same filter I expect the European ones to be coming soon.
I have used this type filter for over 20 years as this is a staple for BMWs.
I will use this new eBay filter next oil change which is only 5000 miles away and see what the results are. I will do a Blackstone to include TBN at 10K miles when this filter and oil should be changed and see what the results are.
Here is the site I used which others in this thread purchased.

YMMV

Re: Any aftermarket oil filters yet?

My 2 cents would be to use genuine MOPAR parts during the warranty period.
Don't give a manufacturer ANY leeway should an engine problem arise.

I'd tend to agree, even though it's a sticker shock to pay $40 for a paper/plastic cylinder filter. My EcoDiesel is currently in the shop for 3+ days due to a timing chain gasket leak on the engine... god knows how much that 20+ hours of shop labor would have cost had my warranty been voided under some theory (the pain of that might almost parallel that of driving around in a rental minivan for half a week, heh).

I admit to a modicum of warranty paranoia, though.

I certainly hope the aftermarket competition drives down the price of the genuine parts. In the meantime, I'll just rationalize the filter price by considering that it's less than 0.1% of the purchase cost of the vehicle.

Re: Any aftermarket oil filters yet?

I recently purchased a Mopar oil filter on eBay from Steve White Jeep in North Carolina for $40.66 plus free shipping. I know there is another Jeep dealer on eBay selling a set of 3 for $118.00 plus free shipping. I contacted both of my local dealers and one wants $61.25 and the other wanted $52.50. I was able to talk the dealer wanting $52.50 down to $45.00 when I did my first oil change. When I went there today to pick up some DEF I was told $55.00 firm on a new oil filter no price break. I will continue with the Mopar ones while under my warranty period as the dealer that I have service my vehicle is very stingy about aftermarket anything being used on the vehicle. I know it's a vicious circle but I am not going take any chances.

They tried to stick me with a minivan before but I refused. There was no way I was leaving in a minivan. So they gave me a base model Chrysler 200, and after a day I took it back. Terrible vehicle. They then gave me a Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi. I was fine with that. The next time my Jeep went into the shop (DEF issue), they just gave me a Tahoe. I ended up having that almost 2 months lol. Jeep wasn't too happy with the bill, and it not being a Chrysler product, but too bad.
