Question Any future planned changes to DEF system?

Is anyone aware of any future plans to change the DEF system? Whether it be a recall on the current system or changes to future model years. I haven't seen anything on the 2016's yet. I'm assuming that info should be released in the next few months. The constant trips to the dealership with the same check engine light related to the DEF system seems to be pretty common among the 2014 JGC CRD owners (US). My jeep is currently in the garage for the 6th time, and has been there for a month now, still awaiting delivery of the catalytic converter. Something tells me that replacing all these parts with the same parts is not going to solve the issue. My father and I both got 2014 JGC CRD's, within a month of each other, and we both are having the same issues. According to the dealership and others on here, this is happening to a lot of the CRD owners. I'm glad I bought the extended warranty. However, if there are any changes in the 2016's, I'll gladly upgrade as soon as possible. I'm currently going through the process with a lemon law lawyer to try and get Chrysler to take this Jeep off my hands. I'll wait until changes are made to the system before I buy another JGC CRD again.

I would agree with you, except that isn't what should be happening. You should be getting a new revision of the catalytic converter design.

Maybe that is what they are doing. They replaced just about everything involved with the DEF system so far, and now currently awaiting a new catalytic converter. They didn't say it was a new design, just that it was the next part to be replaced to see if it solves the issue. Same as others though, they're on national back order. My father and I both have 14' CRD's, and we both have the same issues and awaiting a new cat. Jeep now has had my JGC for a month now. At least enterprise stuck me in a 2015 Tahoe this time. Still prefer my Jeep.

If you have any information on the new revision of the catalytic converter design, please share. I've been searching but cannot find anything. What changes are being made?

They told me the same thing a week after they had it and realized that the new cat wasn't going to be in for a while. They said I can stay in the rental if I like, so I did. Why bother dropping my Jeep off again and getting picked up by Enterprise. I'll just wait till it's fixed and put the miles on the rental.

I also went and got the extended max care warranty when I got close to 30k miles and kept bringing my Jeep into the shop. These repairs aren't a recall and without warranty I assume they would be pretty pricey given the guessing game of keep changing parts. At least I have a full new DEF system.

As for looking for trading your vehicle, I would suggest contacting a lemon law attorney in your state to see what your options are. I was told that even if you don't report it as a lemon, you can still get compensated for your problems and make up for the difference in value as your car is no longer as valuable as it should be with all the issues it has. IE- if you try to sell it and the service records are pulled (dealers or individual), you will not get fair asking price. Could help make up the difference to trade up.

If you are asking what specifically is being changed in the new cat part vs the old design, sorry, I don't know.

I presume you're aware of the TSB 18-045-14 that addresses these issues. So far, everyone with the common P20EE issue has had their problems resolved via this TSB (which ultimately involves installing the new model cat). Perhaps you have a different problem than the P20EE, but playing the odds I'm guessing that's what it is.

I hope it gets resolved for you, either via a TSB-based repair outcome that banishes any problems you have, or via your lemon law process.

Yes I'm aware. I bought one of those OBDII bluetooth scan tools to make sure each time the check engine light would come back on. When I first brought my Jeep in for this issue, they simply did a software flash or whatever. After the light came back on, they opened what they called a "star case" with Chrysler and waited for advise from them on what to do. Each time I brought my Jeep in they replaced something different. DEF injector, DEF fluid and lines, UREA pump, etc, and now awaiting the catalytic converter. However, there is no expected time to receive the part as Chrysler states they are on national back order. It's been a month so far. I just want my Jeep back without the annoying check engine light. I've been shopping around, and as of right now there is nothing out there that I would consider. I do however am anticipating the 2018 Jeep Wagoneer.

This "national back order" stuff is BS. They have enough to to keep new Jeeps rolling off the line every few minutes. Slow that down and use those parts for the people who have problems. It's called customer service.

haha - yep. I just got the call about my Jeep. Originally the service dope said they'd have it in and replaced by Friday. Just got off phone that it's on back order and that I can come get my Jeep back to drive while I wait for them to get their s##t together. Good job chrysler...

I'd rather be in my jeep than the POS rental I got from enterprise...but it does make my life more annoying to have to back again and again.

I think I complained so much about the rental cars they gave me in the past that they no longer give me crappy cars. First they tried giving me a mini van and I refused. Then they gave me a crappy Chrysler 200, which I then called Enterprise and Jeep to demand something better. I think I called every hour until they found me something a little more comparable to my Jeep Overland. I just moved from PA to Raleigh, NC, so a vehicle without navigation wasn't acceptable. I've never owned a car in my life, so getting into a little base model Chrysler 200 with no features was aggravating. I since had the new Jeep Cherokee, Dodge Ram, and now they now have me in a 2015 Chevy Tahoe, V8. Thankfully gas is cheap here and cost me the same as my CRD to drive. I still miss my Jeep, but this thing isn't to bad to drive around. It has most of the features that my Overland has. One feature that I really like that Chrysler doesn't currently have is the alert for front collision. You can set it to beep like Jeep does, which I hate, or you can set it so that the seat pulse vibrates and illuminates a red bar on the windshield (no noise). Only complaint is the NAV, radio, etc, screen setup is kind of clunky. Chryslers UConnect design is sleeker and more user friendly.
