Re: Any high mileage diesels out there? How many miles do you have?

Mine just turned 19,000 miles yesterday, on a 500 mile day trip. On the 200 mile highway trip home I got 32mpg doing 65mph. I love that.

Only in a diesel I bet it was a comfortable ride too. Do you track your fuel cost per mile?

Does my 1400 miles count? J/K. Of course, I only had it for 3 weeks now.

Just hit the 40,000 mile mark. My driving has tailed off as of late. Thank god.

I do. I log every fillup and hand calc each tank's mpg and also the GC's lifetime mpg. Also a running total of fuel costs. They're in my log book. I'll look up the data and report on it, should be later today or tomorrow.

You bet, yes it was a comfortable ride!

Well I said 500 miles so that could've also been the 3.6L gas engine too. But if I'd said 700 or even 800 miles on a tankful, then I'd agree, only in a diesel!

I found the seats on our 2008 and 2014 to be very comfortable.

Re: Any high mileage diesels out there? How many miles do you have?

I agree. The seats in my summit are very comfortable during extended trips, and the range of adjustment is excellent. The ventilation option is a nice touch, too. Very short drivers will be limited by the fact that the pedals are not adjustable—the driver has no choice but to sit very close to the steering wheel.

If you frequently drive on windy roads at high speed you might prefer seats with more lateral bolstering—like the sports seat option in some vehicles. But frankly if that's the driving experience you are looking for, the GC probably isn't the right choice.

I promised to do this a couple of weeks ago! Just getting to this now.

My hand calculated fuel costs per mile, for 20,198 miles on my rig so far, is 16.04 cents per mile. How does that compare to what others are getting? Also, I'm near San Francisco and our costs for Diesel are higher than the nation's average.

Sorry for the delay in getting this to you, jeepgrandcherokeesal. It slipped my mind.

Re: Any high mileage diesels out there? How many miles do you have?

36,000 miles, nearly half of that comfortably pulling a 21 foot, 4,000+ lb travel trailer-- 11,000+ of these miles coming in one great round trip to Alaska, just completed. What a vehicle-- up and down the mountains, with 11% grades in a few cases, enjoying twice the mpg of a gas tow vehicle, with diesel prices just about equivalent to gas prices both in the US and Canada (but much higher in Canada for both fuels). Love this car! We met another couple towing a 23 foot travel trailer with a diesel GC, and they loved theirs as well.

Sounds like a great trip, and one I also want to do. Any problems finding ULSD, ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel?

Re: Any high mileage diesels out there? How many miles do you have?

No problem at all. Most stations carried it, and with the diesel's towing range of 300+ miles, we never had a problem. I just always filled before half a tank was gone to keep my nerves under control because I am one of those people who starts sweating when I see the guage drop below a quarter tank on any vehicle. I also set one of the trip counters on the odometer at every fill-up, then monitored the distance between stations against the miles I was driving and the computer's estimate of mpg. (BTW we averaged 16.5 mpg for the whole trip) The only concern is distance between stations, which in a couple of places exceeds 100 miles, but we relied on the Milepost book to be sure there would be diesel within a reasonable distance. We had friends who took their GC diesel up the Dempster Highway to Inuvik, and they said that the only station on that road (about halfway up) had only the big nozzle for filling. However, they made it to Inuvik, which had the smaller nozzle. I told him there was an adapter in the spare tire compartment, which surprised him. Although on a prior occasion I found the adapter to be worthless because of the high pressure from the big nozzles.

That's a good point. I wonder if they make actual adapters rather than funnels.
