Anyone have a BSFC map for the EcoDiesel?

I was thinking about the most fuel efficient approach to acceleration in our diesel, and I was guessing that staying at the engine's max torque RPM was probably ideal. Then I read about Brake Specific Fuel Consumption, which is the Right Answer™ (peak efficiency is usually close to the max torque point).

I was hoping someone had a BSFC map for our engine that they could share/link.

Yes, I know we can empirically derive an approximation of this by using ScanGuage/Torque and running experiments by observing OBDII fuel consumption data during various acceleration profiles, but that's no fun compared to analyzing a BSFC map.

I'm not sure if this helps, but VM Motori's torque and power curves for the North American version of the 3.0 liter are at:
L 630 DOHC: motors engine Emission Standards: United States - VM Motori

Re: Anyone have a BSFC map for the EcoDiesel?

Thanks for posting that; it's useful data but doesn't have the information that a BSFC chart would.

I think most of us intuitively know that if you want to accelerate to a predefined speed, stomping the accelerator will burn more fuel compared to accelerating more slowly. However, what may not be as obvious is that if you accelerate too slowly then the engine isn't peak efficiency, either. Both of these scenarios cause the engine to consume more than the minimum amount of fuel required to get to that predefined speed.

There is a sweet spot in terms of acceleration that extracts the most energy from the fuel, and this depends on the engine. The BSFC map is a starting point that would illustrate this for our engine.
