Attention K&N Filter Haters

I just got my 2nd Engine Oil Lab results from Blackstone and the Silicon reading(high = dust getting past the air filter) from the engine oil sample of 6,229 miles between oil changes showed less dust or dirt than with the OEM filter at the first reading took with 3,000 miles. I'm below the Universal average reading for Silicon with K&N installed. This filter has not torn or is not falling apart like the OEM original one did and I'm getting great results with oil samples. I'm happy with K&N so far. This test was run on my 2014 3.0L Ecodiesel.

Re: Attention K&N Filter Haters

My first oil sample was also high on Silicon, but dropped on the second sample. Both were with jeep filters. Another possible reason for the silicon on first reading is that it can come from a gasket sealant. This will then reduce the same as metal wear.

Re: Attention K&N Filter Haters

Thanks for the info. Admittedly, I AM a K&N hater but I'm running an aFe pro guard 7 filter due to the WK2 ecodiesel "filtergate". I will get to do my first 10k Blackstone by New Years I hope. Fingers crossed!

Re: Attention K&N Filter Haters

I still can't get past all the Mass Air Flow sensors that have been damaged by 'excess ' oil from a K & N.
I was a believer way back.......but as a precautionary measure, I let the filter sit on the bench for a couple days after oiling to let any excess oil drain off.........still had a MAF go bad on that Toyota.

Re: Attention K&N Filter Haters

Where did you get those 3000k HID Fogs? I'm looking for some more light up front. Deer are everywhere and all around me...everyday.

I have the feeling if I hit one, My Jeep will loose.

I got the Philips X-treme Ultinon LED Fog Lights from them and think they are great; I would recommend both they and xenondepot. I got the plastic rivet tool from Harbor Freight and ordered the OE plastic rivets online.

I always liked the theory of K&N filters but didn't like the wet oil reside on the MAF sensor issue for reasons specifically mentioned above. However, when I saw the AFE Pro Dry S and verified that it in fact has a slightly greater filtration efficiency than the OE filter, I bought it to replace the defective-from-the-factory Mopar paper filter (uncharacteristically made by Hengst.) I like that AFE dry filter a lot, and have been happy with it thus far.

We had a system called Engine Air Particle Seperators (EAPS) on our helicopters in the Marines that used filters on our engines for use in dirty environments, and I believe there is a similar such system on our M1 tanks, well (which also powered by a turbine engine like the helicopters.) Operating in dusty environments like in the desert is no joke, (just ask Russia right now operating in Syria,) and if these products are used by aircraft and battle tanks, I think they are good enough for my Jeep.

Re: Attention K&N Filter Haters

Plenty of K&N haters around
All I can say installed K&N cold air intake on my 2001 4.7 Cherokee limited at 500 miles. Last week traded in my 2001 with 206,496 miles on my new Eco diesel 2015 limited. Motor never had one problem, ran as good as when purchased new.
Also installed K&N cold air kit on my 2001 Chevy S10 at around 500 miles, sold truck at 185.000 miles with not one engine problem.
Hope K&N gets CARB sticker for cold air system on 3.0 diesel. Will purchase now. Live California need CARB sticker for smog

So are you talking the drop-in panel filter, or their cold air intake with muffler delete?

Just the drop-in. They didn't offer the cold air intake system at that time. I would go with the cold air intake if it could draw cold outside air and not engine heat.
