Banks Tuner Released!

Saw this information today. Excited to hear about guys getting this installed and how they like it. I know Banks always comes out with good quality engineered parts and systems.

Re: Banks Tuner Released!

I wouldn't worry about this with the warranty. If absolutely needed, you could simply uninstall it in about 20 minutes and then take it into the dealership. No signs it was ever there.

I've worked in software for the past 20 years. It is virtually impossible to never leave any signs of software of this type.

Then the obvious answer for the truly paranoid is to simply buy a spare ecu. Leave the factory one untouched and load the tuned firmware on the spare.

Much harder to detect.

Re: Banks Tuner Released!

That won't work either. How are you going to explain a failure on an engine that has 20K in the odometer and 2 starts, 10 minutes of run time. Trying to get a warranty repair on a tuned engine is dishonest and the dealers always look for any reason to void warranty. And I don't want to hear any non-sense about the Magnusom Moss Act either. If you think you can use that, good luck. If you want to start modding your truck, you are your own warranty station. If you play you pay, period.

I asked Banks but didn't get a response. I just got a "Memorial Day Sale" advertising email from them noting sales on a bunch of products. They had the new tuner for $389. Still a little nervous until it is tried and true on more than the one JGC and one Ram they have been testing on.

Are the log files kept on the hard drive for a certain amount of time or "incidences" or is the data kept infinitely? Thanks in advance.

Simply making a vehement statement does not confer veracity to said statement. I could yell the exact opposite claims and provide as much "proof" as you do.

And I don't want to hear any nonsense blanket morality statements either.

Re: Banks Tuner Released!

In general, a dealer mechanic cannot tell if an "interceptor" tuner (as this appears to be) was installed and removed before servicing. However, there will be all sorts of indicators - settings and numbers won't add up, check-sums might be wrong, etc. So a clever interpretation of the diagnostics might lead them to believe something was amiss. On the other hand, a re-flash will DEFINITELY be identifiable by the dealer...if he checks the right stuff. Either way, you as a customer have the right to mod the hell out of it - just be honest and up front with the dealer, and don't expect them to cover the repair through warranty work.
