Blackstone Oil Analysis 7500 mi

Here are the results of 10 months operation at around 7500 miles. Note the fuel in oil and the TBN which is excellent. I am comfortable with going for 10K miles between changes now.

Re: Blackstone Oil Analysis 7500 mi

are you idling alot? Why do you think the fuel is so high? Remember if you go 10,000 miles and encounter dirt in your engine(from the faulty factory engine air filter) at 1,500, the engine will have to deal with the dirt for 8,500 miles. Just a thought.

Re: Blackstone Oil Analysis 7500 mi

I seldom idle my JGC so the result is puzzling. I get great fuel economy and don't get stuck in stop and go traffic.
Good news is that this oil was easily good for another 2500 miles with a TBN of 3.8...

No actually I don't think I am an idiot. Did you read the Blackstone report?
Why don't you run along now and go piss on someone's thread.
Really appreciate the value you have provided to this one.

Re: Blackstone Oil Analysis 7500 mi

real strange one about the fuel fun2drive. Are you going to keep monitoring oil samples for possible fuel system problems? Now I want to know my oil report. Was going to wait till good and broke in before taking a sample, but now ???.

The price of Blackstone UOA + TBN is $35.

In other terms, that's less than 0.1% of the purchase price of your Jeep and is also about 1/3 of the price of a DIY oil change on an EcoDiesel.

I'll be doing it every time I change the oil.

Re: Blackstone Oil Analysis 7500 mi

The fuel in the oil is normal. This is common on all newer diesel engines. Fuel is injected into some or all of the cylinders during the exhaust stroke to create enough heat in the particulate filter to burn off the carbon accumulation during a regeneration event. On a new engine that has not completely seated the rings it is normal for some of this fuel to get by the rings and show up in the oil. You get a tip of my hat for doing the analysis. We all benefit when this kind of information is shared.

Re: Blackstone Oil Analysis 7500 mi

But I saw an Analysis on this forum from someone with 4500 miles and the fuel was low or normal in the oil sample.

Re: Blackstone Oil Analysis 7500 mi

Could it be that a regen event had just happened before the oil sample was taken? Fuel that got past the rings would not have enough time to evaporate out of the oil if the regen was in progress or had just ended.

I'm at 8200 miles on mine and am just under 25% oil life on the factory fill; I'll look at getting a sample sent in when I change it in a couple months and we can compare.

That would be great MBDiesel. We all should compare sample results just for ease of the mind I guess. Thanks.
