Boy does Illinois B20 really kill economy and performance

I keep forgetting how bad our Illinois mandated B20 really is. Until I fill up with B5 in an adjoining state.

For those that don't know, here in Illinois the only diesel legal for sale on public roads is B20. The only good news is that Illinois also reduced the tax on B20 (yes, the first time this state has ever reduced a tax!!!). So while our petro gas is always $.25 -.50 per gallon more expensive than and of our surrounding states, B20 is the same price as B5 in other states.

BUT, every time I fill up with B5, I'm reminded how crappy a fuel B20 is. performance goes down and so does mpg. Whenever I fill up in WI, I consistently get 2-3 mpg more on the B5.

Is this only in the suburbs or specific counties (Cook, Dupage, Kane)? I am from Oak Lawn, IL but I curently live in Iowa and only use BP ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) when filling up. I have never used any other brand or formula of diesel in our 2014 Summit. On my way home from Chicago yesterday I stopped in Princeton, IL on I-80 and the BP there had diesel fuel islands for semi trucks and cars and they only sold BP branded ULSD, I have also filled up with BP branded ULSD in Sycamore, IL which was last month. I have noticed when I am in Downers Grove and Oak Brook all the BP's have the B20. Here in Iowa where I currently live most every station has ULSD or B5. I was wondering why ULSD was hard to find in and around Chicago.

No different than E85 unleaded...if it's not as good then it's not a bargain. I avoid it like the plague....

When in the suburban Chicago area and needed diesel look for Delta Sonic car washes, they sell Diesel #2. This was confirmed in side the station. I was told about this by Mercedes mechanic, that is where they fill up their diesel vehicles.
