Has anyone had an issue in cold weather (near or below 0 degrees F) with a strong burning smell after idling using the remote start? This happened twice in the past week. Thought something in the vehicle was catching fire...smell outside and in. Dealer can't make appointment for a week.
I'm wondering if it may be the DEF line heater? Seems like an awfully strong burning smell, however, so a concern.
How many miles on your Jeep? Mine smelled particularly burn-y when the labels burned off the exhaust during the first thousand miles or so. It was really bad during the first few regens; I noticed haze in the headlights at night when stopped.
There have been issue with the heater hose coming thru the firewall giving off a burning smell. This was first noted about a year ago, and to my knowledge, Chrysler has done nothing to address this problems. I have not heard of any fires, just a burning smell.
Mine smelled for the first 600 or so too. Id call the dealer and see whats up. Did you look under the car to see if you picked up a bag or something? Maybe something is stuck under the car?
I also noticed burning smell during the first 500 miles or so. I also live in Chicago area and I use the remote start every week day to start the car from work to home using Uconnect remote start app, however I have not noticed any burning smell or may be I have not paid attention to that. I will check this tomorrow and will post my observation.
I've used the remote start several times in the past week or so and have not noticed any odor.
Temps were in the mid teens and I have about 10k on the clock.
Were you able to get this problem fixed? If so, please kindly share your experience.
I just had my entire engine replaced under warranty (long story). I am currently breaking in the engine @ 700 miles so far and noticed this burning smell. I didn't have this on my initial engine that lasted 20k miles. Smoke is more noticeable at night when headlights are on. Inside the cabin, i can smell fumes when i do not have the AC re-circulation activated. I think it's diesel exhaust that i am smelling. What's more aggravating is that it's giving me a headache on long drives.
After numerous issues with my diesel GC, including a catalytic converter replacement, I am no longer a Jeep owner. Hopefully Fiat will change its culture and tighten up vehicle reliability. Until then, I am off to another brand. It's a shame as in all other areas, the Jeep and the GC rock!
