Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

idk why everyone is hating on their dealerships, I happen to love mine, service department is top notch and I never have an issue with them, they treat my gc as if it's one of the ram heavy duty trucks due to the diesel so I only have a mechanics work on it, even to do oil changes, my Cherokee is another story lol, but I met the mechanic they always give it to and I trust him, they also have a window into the shop and I can basically always watch the work being done

Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

Any oil from this web site you can find in USA will do the job. You can see that Mobil and Pennzoil are both listed.

Mercedes-Benz Betriebsstoff-Vorschriften: Motoröl, Getriebeöl, ATF, Kühlmittel, Bremsflüssigkeiten

Running Mobil (made in France) currently, but planning to use Pento 5W-40 next time.

Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

I personally like the Mobil 1 ESP even though it's more expensive, I've run Mobil in all of my vehicles. My local Napa sells it for $9.29 which is great considering the cheapest I've seen it anywhere else including online is $11.99. They also offer a military discount so that makes it $8.36. I hope that info helps someone out there!

Our experience in Australia is that the difference is significant - not subtle at all.
"meets" is a long way away from "approved"
One is an oil manufacturer claim - the other is a vehicle manufacturer approval.
The points made in previous posts about using a low saps high quality synthetic oil is very valid to avoid down the track issues with carbon buildup in the intake via the Exhaust Gas Recirculation as well as clogging of the DPF.

This engine breathes crankcase vapour back into the air intake system from the oil separator, and when it meets exhaust gases some of this oil will be burned and carbon will form.

In my opinion well worth the very small extra expense to get the right oil, peanuts in the scale of overall running costs. I supply Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 to my dealer - no problem.

Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

FYI - This is for the MB diesel motor, which is NOT the VM Motori engine. And MB specs are NOT FCA USA specs for the VM Motori engine.

For the hemi i have been using the 5w20 pennzoil ULTRA Platinum synthetic. $13.77 with free shipping, including the rebate on amazon for the 5 Quart jugs. Thats only $2.75 a quart for pennzoils best synthetic. Cant beat that price, the rebate will cover upto five of the 5 quart jugs(25 quarts). I stocked up on 5 jugs at that price.

Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

saxdogg,
Any manufacturer can simply say it "meets" the spec but the only oils actually specified (APPROVED) for MS-11106 (FCA spec) in the USA, are Mobil1 ESP and Pennzoil Ultra Euro L.

Just went through all of this. Go to Walmart they have the Pennzoil in the back that meets the specs. Basically the low ash natural gas made oil that's the most expensive. Cheaper than Amazon even.
