Exclamation Can anyone recommend oil?

Hey guys,

Looking for engine oil for a 2015 GC NON-delete. I have only had one factory oil change done and will now be doing it myself, what oil do I need or should I use? I know stock is 5w-30 but I have seen some people mention 10w-30, need some assistance here...

-Mike

Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30. Must be the ESP though as that is Low SAPs. Great product.

Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

Stick with OEM oils that are MS-11106 approved.
Mobil1 ESP 5w30 and Pennzoil Platinum Ultra Euro L 5w30 are both and, so far, Pennzoil can be obtained at the cheapest price at Amazon. That is where I buy my Pennzoil.

Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

Amsoil engine and gear oil is tops. Ford does not refine oil. Motorcraft is just rebranded Conoco oil, which rates quite poorly in comparison tests.

opps, didnt complete above; Ford does not make Motorcraft...And Mopar does not refine oil, it is repackaged Exxon-Mobil oil.

Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

Your engine your call but the Mobil and Pennzoil along with a new Total motor oil are the only ones I am aware of that meet the spec that are available in the US.
I am staying with them until my service contract is out.
Royal Purple and Amsoil might be great oils but until they state they meet the spec I will ass on them...

Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

Be aware that there is a subtle difference between MEETING MS-11106 specs and being APPROVED by FCA.

AFAIAA, Mobil1 ESP and Pennzoil Ultra Euro L are, currently, the only two APPROVED FCA oils in the USA.

Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

Just did mine earlier this week. Got two boxes of the Pennzoil off Amazon (w/ $24 rebate). Really easy to change at home.

Pennzoil 550042833-6PK Platinum Euro L

Re: Can anyone recommend oil?

This engine is pretty easy to change as long as you let it drip out for a while. Oil is available and price is getting better for Pennzoil sometimes Mobil and sometimes Total.
The whole deal with the oil is for the Cat and low ash. You will cause an issue with the Cat using an oil without having low ash which means it will clog you Cat up eventually. If you plan to remove the Cat it makes little difference which synthetic you use.

Since it is so easy to get these oils on line with 10K miles between changes I can't see going to the dealer for that. I now have over 40K miles on mine and it has never had a dealer oil change since factory fill.

It uses a cartage filter similar to what is used in my BMW and uses (I think) a 32MM socket to get the filter cap off...

Only to ask the service techs what oil they use.
Keep your receipts for filter, etc. to avoid warranty disclaimers.
Either Mobil1 or Pennzoil are reasonably available.
