capless fuel cap vent

Does anyone know how our diesel fuel tanks vent with the capless fill system? I want to use the 2" rubber pvc cap over the capless to stop any chance of water or dust form entering my fuel tank. If the tank vents through the capless system, then I wouldn't want to seal the top off with a rubber cap. It fits nice and tight, but not too tight that you can't remove and install it. Thanks.

Re: capless fuel cap vent

There are several gas and diesel owners out here who've fitted caps to their fillers. I haven't heard of anyone voicing the concern but it's a legit question.

I use a plastic cap off a large can of hornet spray... it fits perfectly. I noticed that it has a small pinhole molded into the top of the cap. I suppose that would allow venting (if needed) without allowing moisture or dust to enter.

If that capless filler also vents at the fill entry, that would be a real stupid design with water and dust able to enter around that phony seal at the access door.

Re: capless fuel cap vent

The fuel filler door on my 2014 GC Summit Ecodiesel has not fit tightly since delivery and I noted the poor fit at the time of delivery. Despite the dealer's two attempts to make the door fit tightly, it does not fit tightly and is not flush with the adjoining body area. This video demonstrates how water (and other debris) can enter the fuel filler area. There is no cap and water is observed in the filler tube if no plastic covering is present. This video illustrates the problem.
