Cat Recall

Just received a recall in the mail for the Catalytic Reduction Cat. on my 2014 Jeep Ecodiesel. Is this something we need to do if I'm not having any problems right now? Would be nice to wait until it starts to cause me problems and extend the life of the new one that much longer.

Re: Cat Recall

As long as you don't take it to the dealership, it won't get done.

It's not a safety issue, for the most part. If it goes into limp mode (limited to third gear), it could be, but most failure modes just give a "no restart" warning, meaning you can keep driving normally, but it can't be started again if you shut it off.

If it were me, I'd drag it out as long as possible to extend the overall life, much as you suggest. There are usually telltale warning signs (low fuel mileage, codes related to DEF quality) long before the dreaded "no restart" or limp mode.

Re: Cat Recall

Given that it's an emissions issue, the standard warranty covers the SCR Cat for 8 yrs/80K mi. Don't know whether that time frame resets with the installation of a new one via the recall...

I've had zero issues at 25,000 miles(knocking on wood). Mileage is almost 30mpg consistent. I have GDE Hot Tune(2nd edition). Will drag my feet. Thanks.

The GDE tune will mask and/or prevent a lot of the SCR issues, so this would be mostly an elective procedure to get the new part when you're ready. Bear in mind that they may reflash your PCM as part of the procedure.

They definitely reflash the ECM as part of it. So be careful.
