CEL on then off, would you keep your appt?

A little background... Had entire P20EE issue dealt with 2 weeks ago, new cat and no problems or follow on CEL's...
Came back to airport after sitting for 3 days... Started normally then when put in drive, bucked and snorted and died. Restarted, seemed OK, went about 100 ft then bucked and snorted and died. Wife is getting nervous we won't get home.... 3rd start... starter engaged and cranked for about 45 sec straight and did not start. I hit the off button and let it sit for 2-3 min.
I then restarted and BING the CEL came on, But Ironically it ran normally all the 30 miles home with CEL on. Called today to make apt and going in Thursday. Drove it 25 miles tonight and voila.. no CEL... nothing wrong and ran great....
Does it keep the codes even if it clears the CEL? Should I keep Appt anyways for Thursday even if everything seems fine? Up until 22k miles everthing has been great... Last 500, 3 trips in for CEL's ( Thursday will be the 4th,) and starting to lose trust ??

Have you changed the fuel filters? My service department is recommending change at 20,000 miles ... Not what it originally stated in the manual.

No I haven't, but I surely can... if it comes back with a clean bill of health, I will try to do in the next month...

Wouldn't you want to know what caused the CEL?
Definitely take it in to the dealership and have it recorded on your service history. If it happens again, its already noted.

When I had my CEL first come on, I try to take it in to the dealership to have it documented as quickly as possible. The last thing I want to happen is have it clear and them not have the ability to see what it was. You do not need an appointment for this, as your just going in to have it documented. Then, while you're there, you can set up your appointment to actually have it fixed. This saves both you and the dealership headaches as even if it clears, they have record that it occurred and they don't have to take your word for it.

Re: CEL on then off, would you keep your appt?

Even if the CEL turns off, the fault code and freeze frame data will still be in the ecm memory as a stored code. The light just signifies if the code is active. You can take it in at any time and the dealer can read out the fault code memory.
