check under your engine cover!!!

I had a coworker checking out my Jeep last night, another Cummins gear head like me. I popped the hood and he asked what it looked like under the plastic cover, so I popped it off.

HUGE mouse nest under there. Passenger side, rear of the intake, there's a little pocket next to a rubber block and they had filled it full of what might have been pieces of a sleeping bag. They also chewed up the white wrap on the EGR tube.

Has anyone run the diesel WITHOUT the cosmetic cover? I know lots of generators need their covers to regulate airflow and stuff...I'm willing to bet, though, if there wasn't a cover making them feel "safe", the mice would stay out. Thoughts?

Re: check under your engine cover!!!

post up a pic.

I had a car in storage once where a mouse built a nest in the engine compartment. better there than the interior I guess.

This may have a large "ewww" factor, but if you have neighbors with a tomcat, feed it a lot of meat, and collect some urine.

Works almost as well as wolf urine for deer does.

Re: check under your engine cover!!!

Familiar issue for those in the sticks. As a prospective buyer, I expect to have to deal with this too. No cat...and mouse traps don't completely remedy the issue. I've used a single moth ball and it's always worked for me. You just have to be careful with where it sits, so it doesn't roll out or into some place that will cause harm.
