Re: Check your air filter

Just got back on a long trip. Jeep nows has 5800 miles on it. Had the first oil change and had the dealer pull the air filter right in front of me. Of course it had the famous tear. He replaced it under warranty no charge to me. Dealer thought maybe the air box was causing the problem or a design flaw in filter. Reported it to Chrysler jeep. Interested on how that Baxter product performs.

Re: Check your air filter

I just came home from my local dealership after having my second air filter replaced only after 10,044 miles. The service manager told the parts manager to find out if there was an aftermarket filter available. By "aftermarket" he meant Mopar or one of their subsidiary brands. The parts manager claimed their was nothing available in the "aftermarket." They put another stock one in and told me to come back if it happens again.

Re: Check your air filter

I didn't even look. After seeing this post, I went to Amazon and ordered a K&N air filter. Came in the mail and sure enough when I went to go replace, there was a tear. I did not see any dirt but glad I did. Approx. mileage when changed was 3,500.
Thanks for the tip.

Just checked mine, coming apart all the way around. It looks like the design of this box would screw up any filter you drop in there.

Well, not really, whilst the design isn't what I'd call great, since I went to another brand of filter ("Wesfill"), I haven't had any problems.

That's the AFE stage 2 with the pro guard 7 filter. There is a turbo noise that I love, but there is also a "mechanical intake resonance" for lack of better words that is growing on me I suppose. Interestingly, the stock elbow coming off the stock air box has little dimples inside almost like the inside of a glasspack muffler. I'm sure that's for noise reasons.
I can't specify if it added any power or mpg, I put a GDE ECM in at the same time. You can HEAR it flowing and I believe it filters pretty well compared to OEM and I know it's not going to rip lol.

Re: Check your air filter

Wow, I will have to check mine this afternoon.

Just got my first Jeep in a 2015 Grand Cherokee Summit 4x4 EcoDiesel on Wednesday. Ordered the AFE Power 31-10253 regardless, to be safe.

Your a tdiclubber as well? If so, I assume you swear by stock air filters as I do. That's why it was such a tough choice, but I had to go aftermarket on this vehicle. I'll do a UOA at 10k and look for abnormalities that a crappy filtration system can cause. Hopefully the pro guard 7 is as good as AFE claims.

Re: Check your air filter

I'm happy to report that 4000klm on from this this post : Check your air filter

That the dealer replaced filter is still in one piece when I checked yesterday.

As a precautionary I've ordered a Ryco A1847 to have on hand when (not if) needed.

FCA must have recieved a bad batch from China I reckon. Just hope we don't suffere oil filters failiers in the same way
