Re: Check your air filter

Well, I just placed an order with AFE for a Proguard 7 OEM replacement. They wanted a little more than Amazon, but I got it for the same price.

I don't feel comfortable driving with those Mopar filters, but I can put it back in if I need to go for service.

Re: Check your air filter

I checked my OEM air filter once and it looked fine.

I am just waiting until the AFE Momentum gets released and then I will just throw the OEM airbox on a shelf somewhere. I checked today and FE said it will be available for purchase in early October 2015.

Re: Check your air filter

Ordered the aFE dry filter from Amazon along with a cabin air filter. My rig is a year old with 16k miles so it's time to replace both filters. Never checked the engine air filter yet...(and no point looking at it now until the new filter gets installed). Most curious to see how dirty (or not) the cabin air filter has gotten.

Re: Check your air filter

Cool to see that AFE finally offers the drop in pro guard 7. That was NOT the case a few months back. If they do sell a momentum GT box, I'll be upgrading mine to that style fore sure.

Re: Check your air filter

Installed the new aFE dry filter today. The OE filter was slightly torn around one of the flanges...it's a pretty cheap piece in terms of build quality. The aFE filter is more substantial and the flange material is much higher quality (silicone rubber IIRC). However, because the air filter flange is more durable, it was somewhat difficult to reinstall the box cover as the flange lip did not compress very well. So it took several tries to insert the filter box top tabs into the bottom half filter box receptacle.

Several starts later, I got a MIL....hmmm?

The cabin air filter replacement was pretty easy. With 16k miles, the old filter was pretty dirty...

Check your air filter

The filter itself has nothing to do with the MIL. I have to assume this is an unrelated coincidence unless something was damaged during the filter install like a maf sensor connector.

Re: Check your air filter

I get a MIL about every four weeks or so...usually lasts two to three days and then self-extinguishes. I think it's a coincidence more than anything....the MIL did not appear until late in the day after running around doing some errands (I installed the new air filter early in the morning). If the MAF sensor connector was dislodged or damaged during install of the new filter, the MIL should have shown up right away.

Re: Check your air filter

The code was the P20EE and also P1DB8 as per the scan at O'Reilly. MIL went out after he read the codes on the next start...don't believe he cleared them but not sure.

Re: Check your air filter

Well, I got my AFE Proguard 7 filter yesterday, have yet to put it in. My filter box is a bit tricky to get on, hard to get the tabs in the slots. Wondering if I need to file them?

Anyway, the filter comes with 2 stickers, one is a AFE sticker, and the other to put on the filter box telling people to do not discard the filter, washing instructions / warranty info. The filter appears to be deeper in height than stock and weighs a lot more. The gasket is made of a harder material and I think it will be much more durable than the OEM POS. They recommend cleaning at 3X OEM filter replacement intervals.

Re: Check your air filter

We all just need Dom42 to work some magic with S&B filters to get them to make an outstanding housing for us :-) Their Ram 1500 EcoDiesel setup is amazing. By far the nicest after market housing I've ever seen for any vehicle. The fit, finish, and thought process that goes into their stuff is just amazing. I asked them if they are planning on a setup for our vehicle and they told me no, but maybe Dom can make it happen!?!

Re: Check your air filter

Sb filters is just being kinda retarded. They have it for the Rams ecodiesel. The motor is the same but he compartment for the motor is bigger allowing for more room for bigger piping.

This is there problem. The piping can only be so big with our engine compartment that the size would basically allow for no more then stock flow. Which is the main reason they have not jumped on it right away.

I'm honestly trying to drop my own money to have them make it under my name . So far no no lol.
