Check your air filter

Damn, wonder if they need a certain number of guaranteed units? I'll buy 100 if they let me sell it exclusively lol.

Weather or not it flows more is not the issue. I just want it to flow an appropriate amount safely and quietly, unlike stock apparently. Now that AFE offers a drop in pro guard 7 though, that is IMO the best of both worlds currently available.

Meh, my first air filter had a gasket failure within 5k miles, but the replacement stock (Mopar) filter is going strong 18+ months later. I suspect the filter gaskets tear if people struggle to reassemble the airbox.

I don't want to use an AFE filter that is inferior from a filtration/engine protection standpoint. Like you, I'd be happy to pay for a filter upgrade that didn't compromise protection. As it stands, I'm going to continue with the Mopar part.

Re: Check your air filter

Well its been about 2000km since i identified (thanks to this forum) and had the dealer replace the faulty filter element.
So far, so good. NO rips tears or breakdown of the filter.
The replacement was exactly the same as the faulty filter, so i can only assume bad fitment during build or "dodgy" batch of filters.

Re: Check your air filter

Yeah I haven't had any issues since i original started this thread.

As far as the Sb not flowing more air and not being the issue. Well for them it is because they won't be able to market it the way they normally do.

@farfromoving hey now that's what I'm trying to do haha. All good mayb we can both be a dealer. I'm sure the more we can make, I think we have a better chance at them making it.

I'm gonna get on them more next week. Working on something with them right now for the 2016 cummins

3000 miles on the replacement oem filter and so far no signs of any tears.

Re: Check your air filter

10K on mine. Just checked it and it's torn all the way around. Not all the way through. To me, it looks like it's caused by the filter flexing under WOT or high intake air volumes. If that is true, it would leave me to believe the filter is too restrictive or the filter area is too small. Or it's just a POS.

I brought the flexing and high intake air volume up to the mechanic who last worked on replacing mine and who started a star case with FCA. He didn't rule it out and I did ask him if the filter is used in any other vehicles other than the Ecodiesel. I have yet to hear back about the star case on mine but I do plan on stopping at the dealer next week to inquire about it.

My thoughts exactly. Or perhaps there is a flaw in the airbox design or manufacturing.

From what I have read, diesels use a lot of air, and this air filter looks like the one on my old gas Chevy. I went with the OEM replacement AFE Proguard 7 because it is very solid, it is hard to flex the darn thing. And the gasket is much stronger than that foam used on the original.

But, I am keeping the old one around, incase I need service done.

That the dealer replaced filter is still in one piece when I checked yesterday.

As a precautionary I've ordered a Ryco A1847 to have on hand when (not if) needed.

FCA must have received a bad batch from China I reckon. Just hope we don't suffer oil filters failures in the same way

Checked mine again tonight, now @ 15,700 klm and the filter mentioned above is still intact.

can only reiterate my quote

Re: Check your air filter

My Jeep dealer would not cover the torn filter under warranty. I assumed it would be so I told them to go ahead and get me a new one. They changed the filter and charged me $32.00 for the new one. I wasn't going to have them dig my defective one back out of the trash and re-install it. I paid the $32.00 was mad and they wouldn't back down. I had less than 3,000 miles on the vehicle at the time of cracked filter. Sad.
