Re: Check your air filter

I should have 10k miles on my 15 within a month. I'll do an analysis with Blackstone to see how the AFE proguard 7 works.

I'd like to see those results as I too have put in a Proguard 7.

Deery Brothers Chrysler Dodge Ram Jeep in Iowa City, IA. I have spoken with the service manager Mark Kavaya and he has been awesome to deal with.

For $28, you can buy this:

Air Filter (Gold) Part Number: FIL 9756
Product Line: NAPA Gold Filters -

Fits 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, so I'm sure it fits other model years, as well.
I'd have my doubts that it would fit th diesel....

Fitment info from th e NAPA website:

Re: Check your air filter

Mine is fine....no cracking/deterioration....it's still nice and pliable. No record of it being changed or even looked at in any of the many work orders....only 11,xxx km on it though.

Re: Check your air filter

I installed this aftermarket filter after my last oil change. I'm much happier with this filter's seal. It's one of the few (if not the only?) alternative available: http://r.ebay.com/DHlhwH

Re: Check your air filter

I finally was able to get the Jeep into the dealership as yet another Mopar air filter was tearing after only 2250 miles on it since the last one was replaced. At the time of the last filter replacement August 2015 a STAR case was started by the dealership. The resolution this time around was to replace the entire air box and put in a new filter. The service rep did point out to me that since August 2015 the part number had changed on the filter. The 5 older filters that I had replaced all had a part number ending in "AA" and the new filter has the same number but ends in "AB." I took a look at the new filter and it seems to have a different rubber composition, one that looks a bit more resilient to wear.

Re: Check your air filter

Here's a new one....I noticed my air filter was starting to crack a bit at the gaskets and I'm heading out for a long road trip this week so I ordered a new one from an online Mopar store "MoparAmerica.com". The new filter showed up and I immediately noticed it was the older "AA" part # when I specifically ordered the "AB." Spoke to the parts shop and they told me they didn't have the new part # in stock and just shipped me what they had in stock because they assumed they were the same. I explained the issue with the original filters failing and the new part # having corrected the issue, and the guy completely understood where I was coming from but said he couldn't get the new filter anytime soon and he'd take the filter back and pay for return shipping if I didn't want it. They only charged me about $26 for the filter, so I decided to just install the new older model filter for my trip this week and then deal with getting the correct one when I get back.
So today I went to install the new filter, and as I pull out the original, first the left side seal tears off completely in my hand as I'm removing it which is bad enough, but to top it off, there were two plastic gloves lodged in the underside of the filter (See picture). I had the car into the Jeep dealer a few weeks ago for a CEL and the tech must have put his gloves on the edge of the engine bay near the intake and started the car and never realized they got sucked in. I can only imagine the argument I would have had with Chrysler if my engine was destroyed because their service department didn't notice two gloves were sucked into the engine and then went through their defective air filters into the engine.
Long story short, another confirmation that it's important to check your air filter for many different reasons.
