Re: Check your air filter

That Filter looks like it has about 100k miles on it.

Re: Check your air filter

This is somewhat related. On my 15 so far I replaced one filter with the signature tears. I was also told by some, changing the air filter out is a pain because the box is so tight. Is that still true? For all of you that changed the filter. No issues unlatching and re-latching the box. This is such a ridiculous question for a normally simple operation. Any inputs would be appreciated. I also want to check about this AB part number. Any members using the new part number filter without any issues? Mike

The new filter showed up and I immediately noticed it was the older "AA" part # when I specifically ordered the "AB." Spoke to the parts shop and they told me they didn't have the new part # in stock and just shipped me what they had in stock because they assumed they were the same. I explained the issue with the original filters failing and the new part # having corrected the issue, and the guy completely understood where I was coming from but said he couldn't get the new filter anytime soon and he'd take the filter back and pay for return shipping if I didn't want it. They only charged me about $26 for the filter, so I decided to just install the new older model filter for my trip this week and then deal with getting the correct one when I get back.
So today I went to install the new filter, and as I pull out the original, first the left side seal tears off completely in my hand as I'm removing it which is bad enough, but to top it off, there were two plastic gloves lodged in the underside of the filter (See picture). I had the car into the Jeep dealer a few weeks ago for a CEL and the tech must have put his gloves on the edge of the engine bay near the intake and started the car and never realized they got sucked in. I can only imagine the argument I would have had with Chrysler if my engine was destroyed because their service department didn't notice two gloves were sucked into the engine and then went through their defective air filters into the engine.
Long story short, another confirmation that it's important to check your air filter for many different reasons.
Better there at the car dealer than at the hospital on the operating table.

Re: Check your air filter

Just a quick update on my aFe ProGuard 7 drop-in filter.

I checked it at around 14K miles after having just driven through extensive dust from hours of driving on dirt and gravel roads (following other vehicles at times). The clean side of the intake was squeaky clean. Not a hint of dust. Not even the superfine stuff the aFe ProGuard 5 (my previous filter) let through from similar conditions.

I tapped out some bugs, grass, seeds, and popped it back in. I'll check it again after our next major off-road trip next month, but so far so good.

It's definitely better filtration than the aFe ProGuard 5 if you live/drive in dusty areas.

Re: Check your air filter

So does AFE make a dry air filter replacement? Not interested in an oiled filter setup for my jeep.

Sure do. Pro Dry-S. Washable and works great.

Re: Check your air filter

Interesting....Im interested only if it has the same micron filtration as the stock filter. I was also looking at the wix filter.
