Re: Check your air filter

I went to the WIX Filters website and used their online request option to see if they would consider making a better aftermarket replacement filter. Hopefully they are not the OEM filter maker! I didn't see an online request option on any of the other major filter manufacturers.

Re: Check your air filter

Mine was cracked too... 17k on her now. Much more minor than some I've seen here. Less than an inch individually but multiple cracks amounting to many inches. Dealer wasn't sure if he could warranty the filter, clearly this is a manufacturing defect.

Anyone else have any luck getting the dealer to warranty the filter? Thinking about printing the thread with pics when I go to pick the new filter up on Monday.

My A/F was replaced under warranty by the dealer.

Re: Check your air filter

We just finished up detailing our new Overland and gave her a oil
change at 800 miles, I pulled the air filter and ours is torn on one
side not enough to cause an air leak but I'm going to press the
dealer for a new one.

Ordered a permanent K&N filter. No break down or rotting. I have one on my RX450h since 2010 and is perfect.

Bad, bad, bad! Poor filtration on a diesel leads to premature engine wear if you operate in less than pristine conditions. Lots of discussion on this.

Re: Check your air filter

On edit; I just realized that this thread is about the diesel JGC, so please excuse my ignorance.

***disregard***

For $28, you can buy this:

Air Filter (Gold) Part Number: FIL 9756
Product Line: NAPA Gold Filters -

Fits 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, so I'm sure it fits other model years, as well.

I've got our 06 Duramax with the cone filter just like the K & N filters, no
problems showing up in the turbo intake tube or our Oil reports in 50,000
miles. I've never felt anything in the pickup tube on ours and I feel up
there every time we pull the filter to clean it, and we live on rural roads up
here all dirt so the filter does get dirty.

Re: Check your air filter

Update: Dealer called and got approval for a new filter under warranty. Gonna keep an eye on the new one and look at going aftermarket.

Re: Check your air filter

Mine cracked too, all sides but not all the way thru yet. Dealer is 45 min drive so I just got some black RTV out and sealed it up. Letting it dry before putting back in.

Not really dealers fault, not really Jeep either. However, hopefully Jeep responds to the feedback and specs out a different filter manufacturer from here on out. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1418409121.577747.jpgImageUploadedByJeepGarage1418409136.314246.jpg

Re: Check your air filter

Well not sure who to blame. As others have noticed it is the super tight fit that's causing the cracking.

Did the filter manu get specs wrong or Jeep?

Make sure the RTV you use is sensor safe. Standard RTV fumes (even weeks after drying out) can fool and even ruin sensors. The most sensitive sensors to this are O2, but MAP/MAF sensors are also known to throw DTC's once exposed to those fumes.
