Re: Check your air filter

Yes, please everyone pull out that orange garbage air filter NOW. Pretty much a matter of time before they rip and let damaging particles eat up the sensitive turbo vanes, like dirt, thick dust, or maybe even pieces of rubber. I have the aFe dry filter in mine - just peace of mind...

Re: Check your air filter

Get the oiled filter if you drive in dusty/dirty conditions. Spoke with an aFe tech about the dust that got past the dry filter and he explained that the vibrations from the diesel actually shake the filter enough that the dust eventually works through. The oiled filter grabs the dust and it won't vibrate through.

Got the K&N in my Ecodiesel and so far everything with it is perfect. Please note that I don't drive my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee on gravel roads with the K&N installed. I won't drive any of my vehicles with K&N filters on dusty gravel roads. Just because gravel roads wreck vehicles.

Re: Check your air filter

Same here. Two small tears when I checked. Have one on order. only 1000 miles on the 2015. Time for Jeep to get these updated clearly this has been an issue for a while now!

Getting dealer to get oem but certainly open to options after seeing this thread and seeing it first hand in a brand new vehicle

Re: Check your air filter

anyone know who makes oem filters for Chrysler? I see Baldwin & Hastings make an aftermarket air filter for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but they look just like the original. Not sure if it would be any better than the original. Very happy with the build quality of my drop in K&N. This filter should never break apart like the original. Beefed up all the way around compared to the OEM.

Re: Check your air filter

I also had a couple of very small tears forming on my OEM filter. Decided to go ahead and replace with the afe dry filter.

Re: Check your air filter

So I was curious and checked my OEM filter. Cracked.uploadfromtaptalk1431388212068.jpg
I installed a AFE dry drop in.

Re: Check your air filter

I'm still waiting on delivery of my vehicle, but this thread has me scared to death about air filters. I'm usually a giant proponent of stock OEM filters as they usually filter better than any aftermarket filter and aftermarket cold air intakes usually don't add any power. However, I purchased a AFE cold air intake with the pro guard 7 filter.

After reading around on the net it seems like it was designed for the turbo diesel guys in mind. It also seems that it filters "almost" as good as OEM, which is better than every other aftermarket. I'll have to do a couple used oil analysis' to make sure it's not letting through dust and other small SI particles. Gotta keep that turbo happy!!!
