Cleaner diesel

Is anyone else concerned with the capless fuel filler? I saw a neat idea on the Ram EcoDiesel forum where a guy discovered that a rubber cap used to seal a pvc pipe fits over the filler neck perfectly. Seems like any easy way to keep condensation, dirt, ants, etc out.

As greasy as diesel is, it really attracts grime over time. $3 is cheap insurance if you are OCD like me. The hose clamp isn't used. Available in plumbing at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.

I'm going to grab one tomorrow and report back. Stay tuned.

Thanks Snuke....I don't know how I missed that thread. Looks like there are valid reasons to cap it off.

Re: Cleaner diesel

I am sure the capless one is sealed good enough for normal highway use, but at least this would be worth picking up if you plan to do any dusty/desert off-roading.

Re: Cleaner diesel

$3 filler cap. I beveled the edge with a pocket knife to make it go on easier. It fits tight. Its a 2" rubber pipe cap from the plumbing section at Lowes. The velcro strap is used to hold a pump handle "on" when the latch is broken so I don't have to stand there.

Re: Cleaner diesel

The cap from a spray can worked perfectly on mine and was free. Fits so tightly it takes a little wiggling to remove it.

I like that. Maybe a green one for diesel?

Re: Cleaner diesel

James at Rolling Smoke Diesel has some for the Ram 1500's, don't see why it wouldn't work for the Jeeps. I'll be trying one before long for myself.

Rollin Smoke Diesel. FUEL FILL "DIESEL" CAP - GREEN ALUMINUM ('14, EcoDiesel)

our fillers are different than the Ram. Not sure if it'll fit. Ram owners used a 1.5" pipe cap and it was too small on my GC. The 2" fit.

Was that to fit around the outside of the filler neck? The ID shouldn't be to different. (At least I hope not)
