Code P0428

Was the recipient of a hit and run collision in my 2014 Turbodiesel JGC 3 weeks ago. The idiot that hit me was driving a Honda Accord and he made a direct hit on my driver's side wheel. New axle, knuckle, wheel, tire, front grill, side panel, etc. 3 weeks and $11k later I got the car back and all seemed fine. However this morning I got a check engine light first thing and my Scangauge is identifying the code as P0428.

It's coming up as a Catalyst Temperature Sensor High Input Bank 1 Sensor 1. Goes on to say that replacing the O2 sensors may sometimes fix the code "but in most cases the catalytic converter needs to be replaced to fix the problem."

Can't believe this is a mere coincidence with the accident just happening so will go back to my Insurance carrier. I had the catalytic converter changed out along with everyone else way back a year and a half ago. Haven't had a check engine light since. Just wondering if anyone else had this code and was it solved by changing out the O2 sensors?

Thanks.

Re: Code P0428

Yes, but it was an expensive fix. The dealership had not dealt with this code before so it was a learning curve for them at my expense. There are four sensors that monitor exhaust. The one that caused the code is between the top of the transmission therefore the trans has to be dropped down to a degree to service. That was done, the sensor was replaced and that took care of it, right? Wrong! The code would still not clear. At that point the mechanic told me he consulted with Jeep and wound up replacing all four sensors plus blowing out the DPF (absolutely the wrong way to clean it) with an air hose.

Anyway, parts were about $400 and labor for all that was $1,300. The mechanic felt like I would ultimately have to purchase a new DPF which was between $2,000-$3,000. I haven't had recurring problems since then and have checked into having the DPF professionally cleaned when the time comes which is much cheaper than new.
