Re: Code P20EE

Update on mine as well: just got it back from the dealership yesterday, this is at least the third time they've inspected the P20EE triggering my check engine light. Like nookie's they replaced the catalytic converter on mine too.

Hopefully this is (FINALLY) resolved...?

Re: Code P20EE

It's not resolved. The MIL came on today, 80 miles after getting the JGC back from the service department. I'll bring it in on Monday to see if it is P20EE. I'm guessing it is.

Is there a way I can read what the error code is by myself? Or do I need to buy some kind of reader to connect to the JGC?

You need an OBDII adapter and an App. I use an ELM327 OBDII and the Torque APP on an Android phone and tablet.

Re: Code P20EE

I had the MIL come on on Friday as I drove home, didn't know what it was but it still drove as usual so I kept going. Drove to a couple of places on Friday night then on Saturday the MIL was out. The OBDII Bluetooth adapter arrived today and I too have P20EE. So I will be heading to the dealer tomorrow. Just about spot on 19000 miles when it came on. I didn't clear the code.

Re: Code P20EE

Another Friday and another MIL. I mentioned it to the dealer when we were talking about something else and he just said "Oh yes, these have been having some cat problems, make sure you mention it at the next service." Which means any day now, so it wasn't going to be a significant wait.

Re: Code P20EE

At the last service they reset the code and said run it for 60 miles and see if it comes back on. Well not for 10 days, which for me was 700 miles. But now it has settled in to stay. I emailed them a screen shot of the code reader and then dropped in because I was nearby. They told me this is common, some are going in 5,000 miles. They say they are getting crystals forming in the DEF and taking out the injector. They ordered a new cat but told me they are on back order. There's a new radio on order too, so they can take it for both at once.

They said there is a long validation sequence before they can replace the cat, but that if I didn't need it in the end there were five or six others who would, so they ordered it anyway.

I tried to say "well at least most people don't see this" and they said "wellll... maybe more are than aren't". There was nobody waiting so we had a little talk about the poor design of the diesel installation, they mentioned the weak and exposed DEF injector and suggested I check out the dom42 plate. I told them I'd already got it but was waiting for them to fit the rock rails (now done) before I crawled under and bolted it on.

I hate to say it, but this is sounding like a product that wasn't ready for customer release. If they can't make a cat for these that lasts 10 years or 100,000 miles then they are going to get a lot of lemon law action. Sadly this is the sort of thing that keeps the class action lawyers happy. Hell, they've sued for harsh shifting transmissions before.

Re: Code P20EE

2014 JGC Overland eco-D purchased July '14, now in shop for 4th time for P20EE - replacing Cat and O2 - parts on order now going on 3rd week at dealer, don't expect parts arrive for another 5 days, so will be out of service for at least 3 weeks and 4 visits. Dealer svc manager insists this will fix, but I am skeptical at this point, but having seen others post that the cat fixes it I hope so.

Re: Code P20EE

Service newbie for this code. It has been cycling on/off for 2 months and I've been trying to arrange to bring the truck in; I finally scheduled an appointment this week. Dealer promised to put me in a rental. I'll let them do their thing and reflash but if that doesn't work, I'll be adamant about ordering me another CAT. Unless I missed something, that appears to be the only solutions.

It's not that I'm slack but I've been to the dealer twice and each time they didn't have the diesel tech working. Apparently that person works 7-5 M-F; I might need to change careers....

Just today returned home w/ my JGC, after 3 weeks in the shop and 4th visit for the P20EE code. Time will tell, they did replace the CAT and Particulate Sensor from what I can tell, so we'll see if that really cures it.

Re: Code P20EE

Does anyone have the address for Jeep to send a complaint? With all the problems I'm seeing, I want to get in front of this thing from a Lemon Law standpoint. The TN law which applies to me stipulates:

It shall be the responsibility of the consumer, or the representative of the consumer, prior to proceeding under the provisions of 55-24-203, to give written notification by certified mail directly to the manufacturer of the need for the correction or repair of the nonconformity. If the address of the manufacturer is not readily available to the consumer in the owner’s manual or manufacturer’s warranty received by the consumer at the time of purchase of the motor vehicle, such written notification shall be mailed to an authorized dealer. The authorized dealer shall upon receipt forward such notification to the manufacturer. If, at the time such notice is given, either of the conditions set forth in subsection (a) already exists, the manufacturer shall be given an additional opportunity after receipt of the notification, not to exceed ten (10) days, to correct or repair the nonconformity.
