Re: Convince me as to why I want a diesel

I think the only thing that someone has do to decide is to drive both versions. While I think that over time the Diesel is the more cost effective option, I do not think it would matter because I just love the torque you get with a diesel and now that they are quieter and do not smell well there is no choice to be made. As far as mileage goes well now that we are finally getting above freezing weather my calculated MPG is very near 29 using winter fuel so I do believe that with summer fuel and warm weather 30+ is very likely. Also, I think that if you drive more in a city than I do and you live where their are lots of hills the diesel will do even better than the gas version.

So take the diesel for a ride and if you do not immediately smile you probably should get the gas version.

My problem with the diesel is that here in Pa. it costs 85-90 cents more than regular.

IMHO you cannot compare with regular but with mid grade. The diesel competes with the Hemi and not the Pentastar

In my area, mid-grade is $4.46/gal, and #2 is $4.09. Can't wait for mine to be built!

This is true, however if you're looking at a 85-90 cent differential between 87 and diesel, a 10 cent smaller gap isn't that significant.

Beg to differ. IMHO, the Pentastar has more than enough power for the average owner, as well as adequate gas mileage. So, the 85 to 90 cent difference does come into the equation for the cost to own factor.

Re: Convince me as to why I want a diesel

Well, there is no point going through something subjective. What I find it interesting is that there is no thread on the main forum about asking people to convince them to buy gasoline engines. Is diesel really that abnormal?

I believe his point is that the V6 and the Hemi/Diesel are in a different performance class, so comparing purely on cost, neither the Hemi nor the diesel are competitive to the V6.

If you want higher performance than the V6, then you can get into TCO comparisons between Hemi and Diesel, and that comparison is not so cut and dried.

I think if we are talking about the average American car buyer, yes, diesel is "abnormal".

Rather be abnormal than adequate
