Coolant Level

Hello All,

I have a coolant level question for everyone. A few months ago, I noticed the coolant level right at minimum mark on the reservoir. Didn't think much of it figuring maybe it was just cold from winter. However by March it was below the minimum mark so when I was getting my CAT swapped out (yep, been there too) I made the dealer top it off. It was right at Max when I checked after I got home. Last weekend I decided to check a few things over after a little road trip and the coolant was back near (but still above) the Min line. Seems to be well lower than what it was just a few weeks ago. To be clear, the coolant was at normal operating temperature when I checked both times just after shutting off the engine.

I am beginning to think I have a slow coolant leak somewhere. I have not had any overheating issues or warning indicators come on. The fluid is bright pink as I think it should be. I know the level doesn't stay perfectly consistent, but it seems concerning.

Since I don't have an assigned parking space at my building, I can't easily tell if there is a leak from under the car. I really don't want to go back over to the dealer (for the 7th time in 16 months) on a hunch but I also don't want to ignore it either necessarily. Should I fill it back up to the Max line and see if it goes down again? Should I get an oil analysis done? Is there some other method I could use? Or am I just being paranoid? Thanks for the input.

Re: Coolant Level

Mine too is down about an inch in the reservoir in the last 6 months. It is now below the min line even when the engine is up to temp..?? I don't believe it is in the oil at all..oil is normal and full.
Thinking about getting some from the dealer... Can you buy the OAT formula over the counter anywhere or is it dealer only? Would it be in the realm of normalcy to think is uses some coolant over say 10000 miles?
Other than that... No problems....

Re: Coolant Level

If you are geting coolent in your oil you will notice you'll be getting some yellowish scum on either the fill cap or the dipstick especially if you haven't had an oil change since the level has started to drop.
The water pump could be a culprit here if a small amount has been weeping out of the weep hole if its an internal leak and it could be burning it it might have ended up in the cat and that could of plugged it. Or you could have a hose with a small leak in it somewhere the plus with extended life coolent is that if there is a leak it will leave a red trail

My vehicle was delivered with the coolant below min. I've since marked the cold level with a marker. If it goes lower, I'll complain. If it doesn't, I'm more inclined to leave it alone

My 2014 was delivered low on coolant also, it never went any lower. You can buy the 50/50 premix to top it off, just make sure to buy the right type. I topped it off two years ago and it never went lower
