Costco diesel fuel nozzles

Most truck stops and service stations have pumped diesel fuel from, have diesel fuel residue on nozzles and handles.
Recently have started to use Costco for diesel, nozzles and handles are always clean of any diesel fuel residue. No need for rubber gloves.
Anybody else notice how Costco diesel fuel nozzles and handles, are free of diesel fuel residue?

Haha, if I encountered a station with clean diesel fuel pump handles my initial reaction would be "I guess they don't sell any diesel" followed by "How fresh is their 60 million year old diesel fuel anyway? Is it even winter blend?" (or straight #2, as applicable)

...and then if I decided to chance buying fuel from the place I'd still wear the nitrile glove. I'd probably be weirded out and choose not to go back, though.

Re: Costco diesel fuel nozzles

I think you also need to consider, at least briefly, how new diesel may be to your Costco.

Recent? May not worry much.

Been there a while. Probably would skip.

Willing to bet Costco in my area, sells ten times diesel of any service station in area. Always see few people using green nozzles, when I fill up. Does not hurt Costco sells diesel .20 cents gallon cheaper than any station in area. Half 25 or so pumping stations have diesel option

Re: Costco diesel fuel nozzles

Lately around the Seattle area, Costco has been rebuilding their stations with diesel pumps. Seems like every couple months I'll see a new one pop up on Gas Buddy. Could be that they're too new to get dirty, although I kind of doubt it as some of them (Tukwila specifically) are very busy.

I do notice that they keep their fueling areas and pumps very clean. Even on the stations that have been there for years, the pump handles and keypads are kept clean. No litter and spills are cleaned up.

90% of the time, Costco has been cheapest by at least five cents, often more. Just filled up at $1.89 yesterday; diesel is paying off double now that RUG is $1.99!

Re: Costco diesel fuel nozzles

The nozzles at the Costco I use are very clean. I've seen the attendant wiping them down on a couple of occasions. I once asked him if diesel was very popular and he said they sell diesel like crazy.

Re: Costco diesel fuel nozzles

My local Costco has been around for several years yet the pumps always look immaculate (both gas and diesel). They have to be cleaning them. They are also one of the few places that is listed as a "top tier" diesel provider in the area. Pretty much the only place I go. Still wear a glove though, usually because I'm adding PowerService.

Re: Costco diesel fuel nozzles

I use the Shell stations around Memphis; they always have clean nozzles. The only time I ran into a dirty one was when traveling through BFE Alabama.

Re: Costco diesel fuel nozzles

I wish that my costco offered diesel.

The worst fill up occurrd at a truck stop in the middle of a long road trip. I used a pump with a short nozzle. The nozzle didn't pass the second check valve in the filler tube so when I squeezed the handle I was instantly sprayed with desiel fuel. Since this was winter time, I ruiened about $300 of clothing (coat, shirt, pants). I tried for months to rid my winter coat of desiel smell but couldn't. Now I am very carefull to make sure the nozzel is long enough. I don't think this is a concern on newer desiel pumps.

Re: Costco diesel fuel nozzles

Definitely not good when your nozzle is not long enough.
Sorry couldn't help myself
