Dealer Engine Oil Question

I had my oil changed over the weekend, the part number they used for the oil was 68218927AA. I searched and found it on the mopar site, but I couldn't find any other information on it. I wanted to make sure this was the proper engine oil as it seems as though there are only two types that are compatible with diesel engine. Thanks in advance!

Re: Dealer Engine Oil Question

One of your Google search results for that part would have been this:
New for MOPAR JULY 2013 MOPAR/Pennzoil Ecobox™ Technology

So now you can search for the Penzoil part number, which will give you this
Pennzoil Platinum SAE 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil -The OilHub
Pennzoil Platinum SAE 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil

Penzoil Page - Full Synthetic Motor Oil Pennzoil

If I am right that this is the oil they have used, then that is the wrong oil for your Diesel, very wrong.

Re: Dealer Engine Oil Question

I did a search also. That Mopar number isn't right. Call them and tell them to send a flatbed tow to get your truck back to the shop. Don't drive it with unknown oil!

Yes, that's extreme but its your Jeep and their mistake.

Re: Dealer Engine Oil Question

Thanks guys, just got off the phone with the dealer. They said they have the correct oil and are 99% sure they put the correct oil in, they just put in the wrong part number (of course they would say that). They are willing to change it for me or reimburse me to take it to a closer dealer, which I am going to do. Frustrating to say the least. I guess if I ever have engine failure or exhaust failure, I know who will be paying for it.

Re: Dealer Engine Oil Question

Davis,
What price did you pay for your oil change?
The prices in my area vary from $159.95 to $85.00 plus tax.
I asked about the Essential Care Diesel package and was quoted $199.98 for 3 oil changes within 2 years. I will be getting my oil changed at the dealer on Saturday - I will buy the three pack.

Re: Dealer Engine Oil Question

My price was $166.56 and that was in Kansas City. Just be sure to be very particular that they have the correct oil and oil filter, then check the part numbers on the invoice after. I asked specifically if they had the correct oil and filter, they said yes, but still managed to either use the wrong oil or charge for the wrong oil. Sounds like you are getting a great deal for 3 oil changes. The dealer charged $60 alone for the oil filter.

Good to see another KC EcoDiesel owner (that is until I relocate to NJ in 2 weeks).

My wife just had the oil changed in her jeep and it was $167 at River Oaks here in Houston.

Re: Dealer Engine Oil Question

When I bought mine from Lithia, I opted for a "lifetime" oil service for $800; it includes up to 4 oil changes a year for as long as I own it (with no mileage restrictions). I did my first oil change at 1000 miles, figuring there would be more wear breaking-in the engine...
