Re: DEF INJECTOR and Harness protection group buy

The Paint and body shop I used when I was in Phoenix has this fantastic line of every sort of fastener imaginable. They offer way more weird automotive stuff than McMaster Carr.

Check out Auveco

https://www.auveco.com

I'm sure you could purchase it in bulk for skids and be quite affordable. I think you have to download a massive PDF but U and J nuts start on page 67 and then again on page 102 with even more. If you wanted to go back to one of those instead of a speed clip or I'm sure they have quite a few other options that may work better. I have not installed my skid yet to provide more educated feedback.

Re: DEF INJECTOR and Harness protection group buy

Dom, thanks a lot for setting this up and going thru all the work. Your hard work is really appreciated.

I installed mine this morning, and had a few small issues.
First, the aluminum nut insert (that goes into the hole I drilled) was tight. I gave it a light tap with a hammer, and it bent. I went to my local Menards, and they had steel ones, so I used the steel.
Second, the supplied bolt that attaches to the supplied flat nut is slightly long. I trimmed a small amount off, and it worked fine. An easy way to install was to drill a slightly larger hole in a popsicle stick, then use clear tape to attach the nut to the stick. When the bolt starts, just pull the stick out.
If you have a metal skid plate, you have to loosen the bolt on the other side in order to slide the flange of the new plate between the metal and fabric plates.
I did add a small amount of Locktite silicone tape by the hole I drilled, then used blue lock tight on the 2 skid plate bolts I re-secured, and new new bolt going into the carriage. I did not want to risk putting it on the 2 smaller bolts.
One small concern is that when I ran the Quadralift suspension thru all heights, there is a point where there is only about 2 finger widths between the tire and the plate when the tire is turned all the way to the right. I don't think it will be an issue, but time will tell.
I definitely needed this, as the covering over the line and the injector were already shredded. I'm surprised that this past winter it didn't break off when I drove thru 15" of snow. It was so deep, that even in OR2 height, the skid plates left lines in the snow. Now I will have more peace of mind.

Thanks again Dom - you really came through.

Re: DEF INJECTOR and Harness protection group buy

Man. Idk whats going on with that side bolt. Easiest way to fix this is put another washer , even in between the plate and mounting surface. I put double stick tape between the plate and obviously works better. But from when i installed originally the bolt worked. So lame .

Re: DEF INJECTOR and Harness protection group buy

Has anyone installed the plate on a Summit? Looks like install on the Summit requires additional hardware. The Summit is missing the center skids and the 8mm bolt that holds the fiber plates sits 1/2in deeper than the DEF plate tab. See pics... The plate is fully attached at the cross-member bolt. The zip bolt location is properly aligned, the plate is resting flush on the cross-member, the left tab hole is aligned properly, but is 1/2in floating above the fiber plate. I'll need to find a 1/2in spacer and another 8mm x 65mm bolt to get this working.

no. just use that bolt it will work. loosen that center bolt a little so it wiggles. But once u start to tighten it down, you will see that it will work.

And really , that bolt should be the first bolt to connect. Just grab a couple threads. Then do other bolts. And mine is a limited with out that oem plate too and theres no problem. Dont be scared. Just tighten it. Use some lock tite ...... On other bolts too.

It is purposely made like that so when u do tighten it down, it flexes on that wing a little and creates a tight fit.

YOu see that little gap on the last pic you posted. BAsically it will suck up that little gap when u tighten that bolt
down.

edit....oh , i see what happen.....you lost a bolt.

sent out some more today. Tracking as well. Got a big meeting tomorrow with the GM of a few dealers down here. Should be interesting

Na. I removed it before trying to attach the plate, but as others indicated, many of the bolts are loose - pretty scary. Wish I had a torque guide for all those bolts. I'll try to work your recommendations tomorrow - got a wife stop!

Re: DEF INJECTOR and Harness protection group buy

For get the tq guide. Just tighten tighter then it is and then a little tighter and your good lol

Lock tite, zip ties, duct tape and i are very good friends. In this case the lock tite ( blue) is perfect. Even a small dab of silicon.

Re: DEF INJECTOR and Harness protection group buy

Just finished installing mine. I had to open the center hole some to get it to fit. I'm not surprised, my rock rails didn't line up properly either. I guess mine is on the outer end of the standard deviation. Anyway, blue loc tight and double washer the small bolt and all is good. Thanks Dom.

BTW... the popsicle stick idea for the speed nut was brilliant.

Re: DEF INJECTOR and Harness protection group buy

Installed mine today, then promptly used it.....stupid D.O.T.....anyway, bolt holes did not line up for me. 3 of them needed to be moved slightly. I missed that part about sandwiching the guard between the fiberboard and the skidplate - should probably underline that in the directions. Used the 3M tape as well - works great. We will see how long the tape holds up during a WI winter. Thanks for pulling this off for us Dom - saved many of us a lot of future anxiety!
