DEF Injector Protective Shield: is tape used for its installation?

As posted here, does the DEF shield installation call for double-sided tape in addition to being bolted in? From the threads and the site, the shield solution looks like a good fix for an apparently bad problem, and I've seen several very happy customers post their satisfaction here. I'm interested in the shield but haven't bought it yet. Am wondering about the tape and if needed how it's used in the install. And also, why tape? In that same post reference it looks like ferntree used a self-tapping screw instead of the tape.

I believe some have used heavy duty 3M Double Sided tape instead of drilling a hole.

Haha, you wouldn't ask if you ever heard the sound that's made when the screw works loose from the nutsert. That said, I just hit my screw with some blue Loctite and the screw has remained tight ever since (no tape) and no vibration sounds. I believe some people have used both tape and screw for the rear aspect of the mount, but I'm guessing the majority are just using tape.

Regardless, it's not like the tape is the only thing keeping the plate attached. It's just used at one point of attachment and prevents the plate from vibrating independently of the chassis.

Buy the plate. You'll be happy you did.

Is 3m Heavy duty tape recommended? Is the tape exposed to much heat - just wondering if there is other options out there.

Updated instructions should include the "tape option". :-)

Tape is not necessary, but is a good alternative to the drilling method of the second underbody screw. Just make sure you wipe down everything with alcohol or something similar since the plate is covered with a thin layer of oil.

DEF Injector Protective Shield: is tape used for its installation?

To op

In my experience over the years of building vehicles and parts for the general public. There's a certain type of customer that would rather not drill into the vehicle. Especially being a newer higher end vehicle like this.

The end result of the design makes the plate contact the uni body frame at the rear of the plate. This contact , in some cases would create a vibration that can be heard through the cab. It's annoying. The plate is bolted down in 3 other factory locations, so it's not going to come off. So, the option(s) were created through me because I tend to mind F_#k a lot things lol. I don't mind drilling , in fact I use a self tapping screw my self. The nutsert option is to allow for factory look. And the 3m hd double side tape option is so it will giv it some padding but stick to it as well.... holy sh1t is is strong. Don't plan on removing the tape off the body lol. It gets that hard.

And yes updated instruction will be loaded soon. Been extremely busy and my guy hasn't been able to take a min to upload. But I have stressed that this morning.

I used 2 of these, since the VHB stuff is specifically rated for outdoor/low temps.
