If you run with no DEF will it cause damage?

Re: DEF Level at Delivery

It took a month for me to start playing around with more of the display settings and look at things like DEF level, oil temp. coolant temp. etc.

Our DEF level is already low according to the readout after 1,500 miles. I didn't buy the Jeep from the closest dealer so maybe I'll need to make a road trip some Saturday to see if they can fill 'er up.

Re: DEF Level at Delivery

Just got a 2014 4X4 Summit diesel. It had less than half a tank of DEF at delivery. I asked them to fill it and they just gave me $30 cash to fill it myself. It was late at night and we were ready to go. Next day bought a 2.5 gal at wally world and it now sits a 3/4 full.

Re: DEF Level at Delivery

I'm 700 miles in and my DEF level (per EVIC) has not moved off "100%"

Getting curious as to if it's working or not. Only variance is with remote start, which shows it as "empty"

Re: DEF Level at Delivery

Just took delivery of a JGC Overland diesel. Thanks to this forum, I let the salesperson know to make sure the DEF was filled. When I got on the lot to test drive the car, DEF was at 100%.

The salesperson thanked me for telling him that as it isn't part of the "customer delivery" procedure they have for the diesels. He told me that when they come off the truck from Chrysler, they only have 5 gallons of gas and 1/3 tank of DEF. They are worried about the DEF going bad sitting on the lot for 30 days (including transit time) or the extreme temperatures doing some damage. He said that when I asked to have it filled, they had no idea that it was 1/3 full and didn't have any on the lot. They hustled down to the RAM dealership to get a couple of 5 gallon containers of it and ordered two 55 gallon drums of it. They had 6 diesels on the lot while I was there and asked how many they had sold so far. He said at least 10 and nobody had asked for the DEF level to checked. Going to be a few pissed people out there.

It will always display the 0 and 100%

The white bar will slowly move towards 0 though. I am almost at ~60% DEF with 3000 miles

Yes, I understand that. My point is that my bar is either empty "0" or full "100" at 800 miles now. I would assume it would move somewhat.

Mine had less than half when I got it. The dealer told me that they didn't suggest filling it up due to crystallization. I was in a crazy hurry when I picked it up so I wasn't thinking clearly. The manufacturer doesn't suggest the dealer filling them up since they may sit on the lot. It takes DEF around 2 years to crystalize in the mid south. At around 1000 miles I put 5 gal in it. It doesn't show 100%. I filled it until the nozzle shut off.

Re: DEF Level at Delivery

100% full at delivery. My dealer also sells Rams, so maybe they're used to checking it.
